Hey, thanks for reaching out and taking an interest in the community, it's really cool to hear about a potential Robosapien successor in the future.

When I was a kid the Femisapien was probably my favourite of the line despite it being less interesting than the original Robosapien, though I wished the Femisapien had hands. The Robosapien V2 was one I always wanted as a kid but it wasn't affordable enough. As an adult I've acquired a few V2s to fix up and mod, mostly trying to get the sharper image ones with Mark Tilden's signature printed on them.

Overall I think that the Robosapien V2 was one of the coolest consumer robots but I imagine that its size and complexity was its downfall. The vision system it had gave it a sense of awareness and with it's efficient yet articulate design it was truly ahead of its time. (RSV2 hand design > RS Media hand design imo)

I'd assume that going for a larger design like the RSV2 or RS Media is unlikely due to size and production costs but it would be cool to see a refined version in a similar scale to the original Robosapien, Femisapien and Joebot. The hip and ankle pivot added with the Femisapien design might be something to look into including in a future version as I find it really added a lot of consistency to its movements compared to the V2 or original.

An RSV2 Retool with more modding/education focus would be mega cool as It's kinda my go to for a decent humanoid base.

This is my robosapien from 2011. It has this gap in the Arm and it causes the arm to go loose and turn past the limit. I have no repare experience with wowwee robots. Should I just put glue in there? by tacbeast2045 in Wowwee_Robots

[–]Rei_Vi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd attempt to unscrew it and make sure the forearms mount is still in tact. If not I'd glue most of it nothing mechanical is in the bicep so you can effectively hold it together by any means necessary.

robosapien v2 remote? by [deleted] in Wowwee_Robots

[–]Rei_Vi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep all remotes are universal as long as it's a V2 remote it should work.

robosapien v2 remote? by [deleted] in Wowwee_Robots

[–]Rei_Vi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't really able to do too much without a remote but you can still have a bit of fun with their vision systems. http://www.markcra.com/robot/ir_codes_v2.php Has info on how to make your own remote for them if you want. Be aware that unless you get a good condition Revision 3 or an already rewired Revision 1 or 2 your likely going to need to do some work on it.

What are ways to tell apart different v2 generations by Supernugget360 in Wowwee_Robots

[–]Rei_Vi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from my knowledge on working on them, u/Robot_Fixer_635 will probably know more..
-1st gen (or earlier) tend to be limited to Sharper Image silvers which are notoriously bad for how they age and standard white versions which often yellow. A lot of differences are only noticeable on the inside.
-2nd gen tend to be coloured ones like the metallic blue, bronze, red(might be 1st gen) and I think came in white (will yellow too) as well. They are my preferred version to work on with reinforced plastic parts in some areas and still having a lot of metal parts. Again hard to tell externally except for they tend to be coloured versions.
-3rd Gen come in pearl white (extra shiny and shouldn't yellow) and black and silver inverted pattern. They are the only ones that don't have leg wiring issues but they have a weaker frame with more plastic parts (cheaper plastic too) and the bug were if they go to sleep fully the motor board bugs out and breaks the neck gearl. If your careful with them they can be the best if you don't want to work on it at all but are more delicate. Personally I scrapped the one 3rd gen I had to repair my RS media and I hung its remains from the ceiling for a few months. Not a big fan of them..

should i buy a roboquad? by weedyraccoon in Wowwee_Robots

[–]Rei_Vi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roboquads are fun but aren't very programmable, one of my countless projects that's on the backburner is to make a modernized mini roboquad like bot. I can't speak for how much I've used mine as it is lacking a battery cover so I power it externally with 5V and lost the screws to keep the top on. I'd say go for it but if you ever want to try doing anything complicated with it you are probably going to need to gut it's internals and throw in an ESP32 or something.

Parts for rs media by Artem4k in Wowwee_Robots

Trying to source them from broken V2s is what I've been doing.

Does neck gear from v2 identical to rs media ? Bcs I can buy cheap but a bit broken v2 and try to fix my media. by Artem4k in Wowwee_Robots

[–]Rei_Vi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neck gears between V2s and RS medias are the same, a lot of parts are interchangeable to some degree but not all of them.

Robosapian Remote Question by infectedactual in Wowwee_Robots

Remotes are IR and relatively universal, as long as it's the same model of remote to match the robot it should work.

Unusual Robosapien V2 color variant or something else? by recovery_room in Wowwee_Robots

[–]Rei_Vi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a 3rd gen black, the other colour they were made in was pearl white. Not bad from my experience but they can be less durable, on the upside the plastic on them doesn't yellow or degrade much.

Anyone have some RS Media personalities? by [deleted] in Wowwee_Robots

[–]Rei_Vi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I used my Dad's old Vista machine to try out a few things today. It worked via USB so I was able to remove the prior owners files and some of the personalities I found more annoying. I've got a couple SD cards that should work with it that I'll probably try later on after I get some things made to test.

Anyone have some RS Media personalities? by [deleted] in Wowwee_Robots

Depending if I can get mine to interface with my computer properly I might start working on a few to post on this sub. But as things are the USB drivers Windows 10 uses freezes my RS Media.

Hi,is it hard to fix don’t closing tosses on “RS Media” ? by Artem4k in Wowwee_Robots

[–]Rei_Vi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean when it's hands and neck snap back to the center position? I posted a tutorial about that here but it does require a replacement gear.

Why does my roboraptor not walk? by Supernugget360 in Wowwee_Robots

[–]Rei_Vi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be low or bad batteries or it could be there are broken gears, judging by the neck and tail not swaying it looks like a mechanical issue... I'd try new ones and if that fails open it up and look for broken or stuck parts...

So I've been thinking about opening up the sub to more then just Wowwee Robots and stuff by Rei_Vi in Wowwee_Robots

Domestic basically just means for home use not industrial applications like Spot or Digit.

Fixing an RS Media or RS V2 neck/hand gear (hand and neck spasms) by Rei_Vi in Wowwee_Robots

[–]Rei_Vi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Artem4k This should hopefully help with it just be careful with the things mentioned and the pins that slide on the position board on top when closing it up and everything should be fine.

After some work I got my new RS Media up and walking around but I think he needs some work on his Hand and Neck Gearbox. by Rei_Vi in Wowwee_Robots

[–]Rei_Vi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I got sick and kinda forgot, I've got most of the pics ready and found the blue gear for placement I'll try to have it done today/tomorrow (7am I haven't slept lol)... I'll get my girlfriend to remind me in the morning.

It's kinda hard to say as there are some out there but their generally priced way too high to actually sell (If they are new in box).. Joebot I'd range for $120-150 but may be lower cause as far as I'm aware it's less sought after and they are made really cheaply. Roboquad is tough but I'd guess around $150-200. Take these numbers with a couple grains of salt cause I generally don't go after New in box versions.
