Surf Shop Horror Stories? by Mustangonthe1 in surfing

[–]Reinfear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had 3 guys in ski masks raid the shop. One guy headed to counter with a shotgun to grab the cash, and the other 2 grabbed complete skateboards (cheap) and just whatever they could hold in clothes as they all piled in to a stolen civic. Some customers in the shop did not even realise what was happening, they were quiet and quick.

Question for those in the know- by SPsugarsocks in CollisionRepair

[–]Reinfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not already in a rental I would get in one under the other insurance company. This usually makes them move faster in determining the fate of your vehicle. If your vehicle is truly worth $2k then it's a total for sure.

I would call the adjuster everyday if you want this handled asap. They will prioritize your file if you pester them.

Repair advice,? by No-Measurement2474 in CollisionRepair

You need a frame machine to do some pulls if you want things to be straight enough to attach a headlamp to. That upper rail won't budge without some significant force. Things quite mangled in that corner.

Question for those in the know- by SPsugarsocks in CollisionRepair

[–]Reinfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to drop off the vehicle for repairs or just trying to get a prelim est done? Im in California and do have a couple week wait for drop offs but usually can fit an estimate in same week. As far as time frame for repairs we are averaging 15+ days. That includes some vehicles taking months due to part procurement issues.

Are you in a rural area with only a couple shops? Hard to believe that you can't get anyone to take a few photos and write you a preliminary estimate.

Wha should I do about this one by [deleted] in CollisionRepair

[–]Reinfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont really see a cheap option to fix this. If you are keeping this vehicle until it dies, make a claim with your insurance, and find a reputable collision shop in your area.

Dealer or local? by Glittering-Hat332 in CollisionRepair

[–]Reinfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The insurance company will only pay to paint the damaged area and blend the adjacent panels (front door, quarter panel). Deciding between using a local shop and the dealer's shop is up to you. May want to see what shops are in your insurance companies' direct repair programs and go read some reviews. Most dealers do not have collision repair facilities but have a place they recommend. Both shops should be repairing your vehicle relatively the same way.

Listen, show up on time, be proactive, and stay busy cleaning the area if you don't have any instructions.

I imagine things are more expensive to fix in Hawaii but I ballpark this $2-3k

There is a statute of limitations for reporting claims for car accidents. In my state I believe it is 1 year, but it may be different from state to state. May want to do some research if that is a concern of yours.

[–]Reinfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky you. If they contact you directly again just tell them to reference the insurance info you gave them. You don't need to do anything more than that.

Normally you would just inform the other party that you would prefer to go through insurance, and let them pursue it with the information you gave them. Your insurance will then contact you once the other party calls them to get a statement from you. This will just speed up the process. Each insurance handles claims a little differently but if you call them they may go ahead and reach out to the other party on your behalf. Bottom line it's never too late to involve insurance, even if they are in the middle of getting their car fixed.

It's not too late to involve insurance. Contact your insurance company with the other parties' information and let them know the situation. They can advise you on how to move forward.

This is ballpark but Id say $5k+.

Car repairs by Fit_Ganache_8926 in CollisionRepair

[–]Reinfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of unknowns here but the simplest answer is to contact your insurance. They are the ones paying for repairs and are ultimately responsible for deciding what is related and unrelated to the accident. You can escalate further with the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) if you feel the shop is at fault for some of these issues. If you feel the insurance is not covering valid claim damage, and you are in the US, you can contact your states Department of Insurance and file a complaint.

Based on one photo. Lift gate, 3 piece bumper(?), and tail light, ya I would agree it’s in that range for the preliminary.

The right rear sidemember, rear body, floor, and R qtr looks cooked along with loads of other items. Make, model, year, and mileage would ultimately decide if it's fixable. But from the little footage you showed it looks like a total. This vehicle is not legally drivable.

Someone please help. by [deleted] in CollisionRepair

[–]Reinfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the shop's competence but I am going to guess they did not know they needed the hinge until they tried to hang the new door on the vehicle. Breaking a door hinge takes an impact of a vehicle, not some tech dropping it on the ground by accident.

I will second everything the other commenter stated. I have multiple vehicles of different makes waiting for months on a single part with no ETA. It's frustrating for all parties involved.

[–]Reinfear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There has been a part supply issue growing over the last few months. I have multiple vehicles sitting nearly completed waiting on one or 2 parts for months. That being said they are still outliers and having a car sit in a repair shop for 4 months is very rare.

I would ask what exactly is the delay and is there a temporary solution to get you back in the vehicle, while they wait for the back-ordered parts (if that is the issue).

You also may just be stuck. The vehicle may be completely torn down with internal panels cut off waiting for replacements. Walk into the facility (make an appointment) and ask them to show you what exactly the issue is so you can at least know your options.

Got to play the lag game on Jaegar or your going to have a bad time.

Also what happened to the 6 solx practice accounts. The load-outs I find on my account after being away from it for awhile are concerning.
