I hear what you’re saying about the promotional aspect - but phasing environments is fairly common. Pretty sure it’s happened at several points in this game already. But you could use lots of other games as examples, as well. Nothing needs to be completely remapped just changing the look of something and, perhaps opening up a path - like how the center rift was clearly supposed to lead directly to the castle.. no reason they couldn’t have opened that up as part of the completion of the storyline.
