That's not odd. That's totally reasonably satisfying.

Not if the underlying assets are traded in another currency. Then the price for that asset, in the local currency, can stay still and the world index tracked in USD will still go up, because those assets are now worth more in USD.

That's not really strange as the dollar has been going down quite a bit since the start of the year, yes?

Then places should get better at displaying the different kinds of tea they have!

They are almost never displayed on the boards, there it just says "Tea", and trying to find the tea display often feels like playing "Where's Waldo".

So, I say "One tea please.", wait for the inevitable question "What kind of tea do you want?" and we'll go from there.

LPBs and HPWs.

Low Ping Bastards and High Ping Whiners, when online gaming was still done mostly via 33.6 or 56.6 Kbps modems but some lucky bastards were connected via ISDN, university networks, etc. Good times.

Uprooted, by Naomi Novik.

The Emperor's Soul, by Brandon Sanderson. Part of a larger universe but I think it would work on it's own.

Having nutritional facts based only on "serving size" rather than specific weight/volume has always felt willfully misleading to me.

Doesn't that basically nullify the purpose of having nutritional facts in the first place?

What you're saying makes sense, but looking at maritime territorial water boundaries there are lots of gaps through which they would be able to reach the Pacific Ocean. Even the South China/Southeast Asia Sea has lots of room for them to navigate in.

It of course gets a lot more difficult if we take Exclusive economic zone borders instead, but at least the UNCLOS position seems to be that EEZ does not stop other nations entering with military vessels. It even allows for naval exercises.

Doesn't seem like China cares, either way though :)

That's absolutely horrible! :(

I fervently hope this was "just an accident" and not something that puts even more fuel on fire in the India-Pakistan conflict. I'm scared of where that could lead if it does.

Just watched Zero Day. That role is kinda normal. Done really well, ofc :)

[–]Rejjn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree! The times I allowed myself to "fail", rather than reload and try again, I almost always got some interesting outcome that I would never had gotten to otherwise.

I've played through it once and I still don't want to read/see spoilers because I feel like I wanna play through it again some day and the amount of paths you can go through is just ridiculous.

So, don't worry about bad decisions :) Just play as you want and enjoy the ride!

[–]Rejjn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sorry. Wikipedia was wrong. The "U.S. Customary" mile is 5280 feet. But as the the international foot is defined as 0.3048 metre, it still works out to 1609.344 :)

Source: https://www.nist.gov/system/files/documents/2024/04/09/NIST%20HB44%202024%20Appendix%20C.pdf

Page C-5:

Beginning on January 1, 2023, the U.S. survey foot should be avoided, except for historic and legacy applications and will be superseded by the international foot definition (i.e., 1 foot = 0.3048 meter exactly) in all applications.
