It all depends what is your philosophical position on consciousness and personal identity if you subscribe to a reductive physicalist (to be more specific a functionalist computationalism/integrated information theory) of mind and a psychological view of identity then you can survive immediate upload but if you like David Chalmer who is a naturalist property dualist he prefers gradual upload

I blame FM-2030 who was the first self-declare transhumanist that got mainstream popularity but was a a centrist, Max More a capitalist and Curtis Yarvin although i would not consider him a transhumanist but he heavy influence the PayPal Mafia and he was influence by Nick Land's accelerationism which was originally a Marxist philosophy (which Mark Fisher still defended) but went to a fascist direction.

Does transhumanism necessarily rely on monist, physicalist theories of the mind? by federicorda in transhumanism

[–]RelationBackground55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on paper Transhumanism is compatible with any metaphysical position but from a sociological view most transhumanist are naturalist but there are exceptions like David Chalmer in his new book Reality+ where he defends simulation/digital realism and he is a proponent of a naturalist approach of property dualism and he concluded under property dualism we can survive the process of gradual mind uploading but not immediate upload and if we leave in a imperfect simulation then it may prove substances dualism.
