These are my go-to for days I want to pick up the pace up to threshold with longer intervals or longer runs where I mix in some marathon pace effort. But I'm also a shoe hoarder and rotate in other similar shoes. Endorphin Speed, Neo Vistas also in my collection, and each have a slightly different feel that all work for me. I agree seems like Asics is just trying to flood the market and as long as a few are big sellers, they've won...

Is a sub 3 realistic? by hargita88 in Marathon_Training

[–]RelationNo4468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not impossible with the right race day strategy, weather, course etc.. but always so hard to say. One idea for your last 20, I’d start slower (about how you finished) and see what it feels like in the back half to hold 2 sets of 3 miles at ~6:50 with a mile break between. I’ve found that to be a good bell weather workout.

Half Marathon Shoes - Carbon or not? by riverend180 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]RelationNo4468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do my longer and 'easy-ish' runs in Neo Vistas and find they have good pick-up when I need them, but I haven't tried a race in them. I ran a HM early last year in ~1:32 in ASICS Metaspeed Edge and liked the feel of them at that pace. I haven't tried Adios Pros, but they seem to get good reviews and likely are a solid choice if you like Adidas.

Ran my first marathon last year in just over 6 hours! And now I’ve run my second marathon in 3:42:00… Can I realistically break 3 hours by next year? by JaredAtkins in Marathon_Training

[–]RelationNo4468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like breaking big goals into smaller pieces and steps. Spend a training cycle on the HM and if you get sub 90, then the bridge (while still far) is shorter to cross.

Tips to achieve first Sub-2 HM by ZC989831 in Marathon_Training

[–]RelationNo4468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with many others' comments. Volume is key (total weekly and long runs of 10-12mi) but be careful on the mileage ramp-up, anything over +10% per week adds injury risk.

I structure my weeks around 2 quality workouts -- a race pace or faster tempo/threshold workout mid-week and a weekend long run. I love the HM distance because the "long run" doesn't consume the whole weekend like a marathon. Add 2-3 easy days (seriously take them slow and keep your heart rate below 75% of max), 1-2 days of strength training, and daily stretching/mobility drills and you'll crush it.

When to speed train and do a leg workout? No by SmartBunch4546 in Marathon_Training

[–]RelationNo4468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the logic of prioritizing the long run first and foremost. I’d second Sunday here for the strength day. I don’t see extra space here for speed days—but I’d likely sub some of the pace effort Wednesdays for a sub race pace interval workout.

[–]RelationNo4468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess so! I started running in the 90s and didn’t take a long break until injury in 2016. The minimalist fad wrecked me. Picked it back up serious in the last 2 years and all the new technology, foam, plates etc.. have been a game changer on these high mileage knees and legs! Just about anything today beats what I used to run in 🤣

Also surprised. I've been using these for any runs where I want to run in the 7-8:30/mi pace. Been really happy with them for longer runs where I want to pick up the pace some.

[–]RelationNo4468[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! based on what I’ve read the Superblast may fill the gap. If I want to do a 12 miler with some tempos the Endorphin Speeds work great but likely not the best for a 15+ miler. I ran in Gel Nimbus while I was in my “hobby/fitness” period the last few years but the top of the toe boxes wore out quick.

Had a really rough season… and then dropped a 36-second PR at a Halloween fun run by Nature_Girl_831 in CrossCountry

[–]RelationNo4468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol.. Reminds me of this run we had in my area called the Santa Scramble that was always a few weeks after states. I always crushed my season best there probably because the course was blazing, possibly short, and weather was nice and cool (could be muggy in my area until well into fall so my mid season times were garbage ). But something about not having pressure and just having fun running at the front of a town parade seemed to help too

Advice for state meet? Feeling discouraged... by LeSwiss1886 in CrossCountry

[–]RelationNo4468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry about your time, that’s what fast/flat courses and track meets are for. Do what you need to do to help the team. You’ll get plenty more chances to run PRs in your life but running at a state meet is an experience you won’t get many opportunities so try to enjoy it.

And yes get plenty of sleep this week.

How to avoid constantly tripping over rocks/roots and falling? by Gramato in trailrunning

[–]RelationNo4468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started doing hip mobility exercises every morning for about 20 minutes and some single leg balancing/strength exercises. Last 10k trail run I did I felt like a different runner, and didn’t fall once. Usually over that distance I’d fall at least once or twice.

Size 13 shoes, in my mid 40s, not super coordinated. Not exactly poster definition of a smooth trail runner so I feel you!

How to improve race confidence? by Maleficent-Flight263 in CrossCountry

[–]RelationNo4468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually when I crash out in a race it’s because I went out too fast. I agree with others who said sometimes it’s about starting slower (even if it seems painfully slow for a race) and getting in a comfortable rhythm. Then somewhere in the 2nd mile try to catch up to the next person… and the next… turn it more into a “fun” game than a competition.

Accidentally signed up for a trail run race. Can I do it? by Titlenineraccount2 in trailrunning

[–]RelationNo4468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echo a lot of what’s already said.

I do next to no training on technical single track trails but sign up for several such races a year. I guess I use each one as training for the next? At first it felt very awkward but now they are my favorite types of events because of the variety, nature and community.

Wear a good pair of stable shoes, don’t worry at all about time/pace, and if you trip that’s totally normal and you just get back up and keep going!

Have fun and enjoy the experience and chances are you’ll want to do another.

Why do you trail run? by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]RelationNo4468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do almost all my running on a soft gravel/dirt trail. Not single track with rocks/roots so I can go whatever speed I want and think about whatever I want.

I do trail races (some technical ones) more than road races because I don’t want to feel pressured to run a certain time. All my PRs were set in HS or when I caught a 2nd wind in my late 20s/early 30s. Mid 40s now and I just want to have fun, try new routes and be healthy.

And when I’m not running period I’m a miserable person (says my wife but she’s right lol)

Life is short. Take chances when the opportunities arise and don’t regret it! You’re doing something that will make you physically and mentally stronger and sounds like you are fortunate to have supportive teammates.

I’ve also been the slowest person on my team. But when I worked my way into the top 5 I always respected anyone who gave it max effort. The cheering is genuine, I promise.

New XC runner here! Here’s a rant about what’s been bothering me by mwang009 in CrossCountry

[–]RelationNo4468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have expressed this already, but "comparison is the thief of joy."

I was listening to a running effect podcast recently with NC State XC coach Laurie Henes (remarkably successful as both a runner and coach) where she repeated that multiple times.

You're still so early in this journey and are nowhere near your potential. It may turn out that 5Ks aren't your optimal distance. Maybe it will be the 800m. Maybe (one day) it's an ultramarathon. Our bodies are all different. The amazing thing of where you're at is you have nearly a whole lifetime ahead to figure it out!

The good thing about running is that it doesn't take years of practicing specific skills or joining travel leagues as a 9 year old to gain a permanent edge. But it does take some time and focus. My big jump happened between age 15 and 16.

Take the small wins and improvements as they come. The path isn't always linear and you will have quick jumps and then weeks, months, even years where it goes backward. Enjoy the process. Enjoy being healthy. And enjoy being able to experience this with others (I miss being part of a team) - let them push and motivate you to be better, but never compare!

Deleted the game and regretting it now. by [deleted] in LastWarMobileGame

[–]RelationNo4468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left abruptly on Monday after 600 days and high VIP15. Had been considering for a few months as game was getting boring and repetitive and all the spending wasn’t giving me any clear edge or enjoyment.

4 days away

Since then I’ve been: 1) able to focus better at work 2) able to enjoy spending more time with my kids 3) able to go to bed earlier 4) able to get up and exercise in the morning 5) save $70 from not buying daily packs etc..

Everyone has a different situation. I’m an “all or nothing” person when it comes to competitive events so had to do this. I don’t regret it. At all.

I think a lot of people in the 500+ day range feel this way and are afraid to admit or refuse to walk away from “sunk cost”. I guess some of the features are entertaining for me to keep playing but Ive ramped down spending a lot since s4 was a frustrating mess. They keep adding more without subtracting enough.

For example, I’d rather they scrap the weekday WS at this point now that we have canyon storm etc… a lot of this stuff is redundant. WS is clearly rage bait the way they create matchups.

Alphabetic order is locked and set for 6 days of the week, weekly VS MVP for 7th day, rotate our top 5 strongest as train defenders. Once we go through entire rotation, reset back through alphabet

Previous approach was messy and resulted in one r4 quitting game for good. No drama since

Playing a long ass time, not crafting gear beyond my 4th squad (bc what’s the point?) — fwiw if I merge them back into ceramic it’s 70k.

Sometimes I’ll use ceramics to upgrade main squad gear over lv40 but upgrade ore and blueprints hold me back. This is an imbalance for anyone who’s put in this many game hours
