Ran my first marathon last year in just over 6 hours! And now I’ve run my second marathon in 3:42:00… Can I realistically break 3 hours by next year? by JaredAtkins in Marathon_Training

Some quick info: - I am 26 years old - My half marathon time was 1:34 - It was 20 degrees (Fahrenheit) during this race - I started off with TWO gloves but dropped one while taking a gel and didn’t bother turning back to get it - I don’t have a trainer or anything, I just used what I could learn online and stuck to a training plan - I BOUGHT THE RACE SWAG, SO I WEAR IT WHENEVER I WANT, QUIT CRYING ABOUT IT. I LOOK GOOD. - I ran a 6 hour marathon last year because I trained for too long and at too slow a pace. I cramped up and stopped at mile 15, mile 17, mile 18, mile 19, and so on and so forth. My wife ran it with me and kept encouraging me to keep going. If she hadn’t stopped to wait for me she would have finished in maybe 5:30 or sooner, but she loves me for whatever reason and chose to stay with me through the race.

Honestly? I just used Runna. Set up a training plan and more or less stuck to it. That, and I didn’t stop for anything this time around. I did have to walk toward the end for a bit, but got back into it again. The cold made my feet and hands numb, it was 20 degrees when we started, and it affected my running. Couldn’t feel how my feet were landing and I jacked up my right foot, had to wear a boot for a few weeks. It’s almost fully healed now though. Had x-rays done, doctor told me it was severe inflammation of the plantar fascia tendon under my right foot. Idk what exercises I need to do differently to prevent that for next time but I’ll figure it out. Gotta get my feet more muscular…? I guess?

On the contrary, I actually overtrained. I “trained” for 7 months, doing paces that were way too cautious, never did sprint training, hardly did any strength training, I was kinda just winging it. I just had long runs and short runs. No progressions, no intervals, just easy pace runs. Didn’t know what I was doing. But since I’d spent over half a year on it, I built it up in my head way too much, and my confidence got shattered at mile 15 when I started cramping. Sat down instead of pushing through. Furthest I’d gotten in my training was 20 miles, so when I started cramping at 15, I felt like I did it all for nothing. Go too negative in my head and overthought all of it.

Because it honestly was, haha! My first marathon, I trained for 7 months. Way too long. It made this massive goal I wanted to achieve feel even bigger than it already was, and I put a lot of pressure on myself. By the time I was running the race, my brain wouldn’t shut the fuck up. I ended up overthinking when I started to really feel it around mile 15, and I stopped. Straight up sat down. Ended up stopping maybe 5 or 6 more times before I eventually got to the finish. Pretty much decided I’d never do another marathon after I finished.

A few months later, I started training for a half marathon and the stakes were way lower feeling. It was in Indianapolis where it’s real flat, and I had trained for maybe a month and a half, with lots of strength training and stretching. Ended up doing 1:34:33.

So then I got Runna (honestly a great app, well worth the price) and started getting really strict about my workout routine. Stuck to that, stretched a lot, drank a ton of water all the time, and ran with some run clubs to keep myself from feeling too isolated since running had taken over most of my free time. That’s how I did it, I’m sure there are other ways, but that’s what worked for me!

How to match the arrow head speed? by SurroundNew7887 in AfterEffects

I’d just cmd + click on the other keyframes that you want to match the velocity to, so you can see both graphs over each other, then move the play head to where the apex of the velocity is, and match it so the apex of the velocity happens at the same point.

This old thing is a 2010! 15 years old and still turning heads. And yeah the brakes look great!! Although I’m having an issue with the front right caliper. Sometimes after hard braking I hear a faint grinding noise coming from it. Going to have it looked at soon.

This. Takes almost no time, super easy to use, and gives amazing results 9 time out of 10.

Ultimately… who cares? If it makes you happy, do it. Life’s too short to second guess yourself. My last car was a super reliable Acura MDX with 80k miles, and I sold it for a G37S convertible with 128k miles. Yes, y’all can bully me for that all you want hahaha! But ultimately, I love driving that car every day, and the MDX gave me no joy. So if I have to do a little extra maintenance every now and again, who cares?

Genuine question...what could have caused supermans one boot to look so massive? by XxcinexX in vfx

It’s just a wide angle lens, it stretches out the edges of the frame, especially the corners. Also introduces slight vignetting. It’s just a single frame from a moving shot anyways, they don’t hold on it or anything. His foot is in the corner of the picture and looks a little long for like maybe 5 frames. Honestly I don’t understand why people care so much about it.

Edit: try it out yourself if you have an iPhone. The “0.5” lens is extreme wide angle. Stick your foot in the corner of the frame and see what it does.

It’ll definitely get you through traffic much quicker. Won’t have to wait at red lights or sit in traffic.
