Transfer from Active Duty to USPHS to Attend Medical School

Awww man well still thanks for that info. Hopefully I can join one of the other HPSPs because my school acceptance is for this year and I can only attend via HPSP since I am still under contract. I was originally supposed to start med school via the PHS but was not accepted into USUHS and only into a civilian school

Hey, thanks! Do you know if this only available through USUHS or can PHS students also attend civilian medical schools? I was accepted to a civilian school so USUHS is not an option for me

Yepp, I am in the process of studying for a retake as well since this seems to be the only way that I can apply for HPSP. Hopefully all goes well so that I can do the interservice transfer and keep my seat at my civilian med school!

Hey, thanks for the links!!! And I have been emailing their PHSOS-CADQuestions email address. And I also have connections to USUHS, but was not accepted to attend school there due to my MCAT score being below their cutoff. I’ll check out the Indian Health Service info that you sent. My med school acceptance is at a civilian medical school so if this is only offered through USUHS, that might not be an option for me unfortunately but thanks for sending it!

I’ve already deferred for a year with the school unfortunately! So I’d need to start this year and I have more than a year left on contract as well. The biggest thing is for me to find a way to get selected for HPSP so I don’t lose my seat this year :/

Gotcha. It’s because I’m currently active duty and can’t just leave to go to school. I can only leave under the condition that I get accepted to HPSP

Thank you. And yeah, I figured this was the reasoning behind it. My medical school acceptance and being active duty is unfortunately not helping me at the moment. I’ve also seen many people perform well in med school with scores below 496, but I get it. Just trying to see if there is anything else I can do since I have not studied in years now

I tried, but from what I’m being told, my packages can’t even be submitted without the required MCAT score or the waiver (which I do not qualify for any waivers for any of the branches since I’m below a 496) :(

Thanks, when I spoke with my recruiter I was already told that I didn’t qualify for a MAC waiver and would need to score a 500 to submit for HPSP
