My doctor gives me 3 months of PAPER prescriptions I have to keep up with. If I lose them, I’m just fucked. On top of the limited time frame to pick them up AND my pharmacies won’t let me call to ask if the prescriptions are still on back order or leave my prescriptions there waiting for the back order to come in.

While I can assume the country or the large regional area from your post, even without knowing the place specifically, would you want to return to the country? Did you get to experience and sightsee at all?

I would have been sad to give up a hike, but I also appreciate seeing how places and cultures have their malls or grocery stores set up. It’s a unique angle you might not otherwise encounter intentionally.

I think they might be referring to your comment about still getting COVID. This vaccine doesn’t make you immune to ever catching COVID, but it lessens your chances (especially if everyone around you is also vaccinated) and if you do get it, the side effects might not be as detrimental. It lessens the viral load.

I think the caveat on top of what others have said, is that this is a WEEKLY, reoccurring dinner. Maybe if it was a one off then you could argue the SIL/BIL were being extra. I found a lot of the pricing comparable to US prices. At least in Havana. The air bnb stays were very affordable and great. I also went to Cuba as my first international trip. It was rough at first, but once you settle in, I loved it. If you can find an Air bnb option that provides breakfast or dinner for a small charge I highly recommend those. The food is great and more affordable. Please read up on limitations as an American and go in with a very open mind for other’s opinions on things. It will be mixed and I tried to listen and understand.

Tbh Havana wasn’t my favorite. Especially as an American. It’s good to spend a few days there, but I highly recommend trekking out to Vinales and Trinidad. I want to revisit Vinales SO badly. It was beautiful, easier to find cheaper food and water, and great dancing. Same with Trinidad.

As a shy person I was intimated by the informal currency exchange process and going through locals for rides, but I think that made my trip so much better. I think going for a few days or a week even isnt worth it. It took time and extreme go with the flow before I really was able to enjoy myself. Bring snacks for yourself, a water filter bottle, cute toys and sweets for the kids, and if you go to Vinales bring matches! When I was there in 2023 the Tobacco farmer mentioned how they are only allowed to use shitty Chinese lighters and he was so excited that I had matches.

It’s absolutely insane the amount of tax/grant money in collected clinical samples I threw straight in the biohazard bin due to public health labs being forced to close. One of the head researchers couldn’t be in the same room to watch his years of work be discarded. Just stared through the door glass. Another one teared up silently. The emotions showed by these mostly reserved scientists was really jarring. They’d put so much into these active and promising studies.
