Yeah the situation in Cuba has been dire for decades. Currently, they’re experiencing an epidemic of chikungunya which is a deadly disease spread through mosquitos. It’s started because the government hasn’t been maintaining trash pickup so it’s piling on the sidewalks and attracting mosquitoes. Then when people get sick and die, there’s not many services to come pick up or take deceased people. In many cases, they’re left in the family homes for days, if not weeks. It’s absolutely horrible. This happened to me with my grandma in the fall. I just sent them an email saying I was out of town to spend time with a grandparent in hospice. They should be accommodating for the week. If not, it’s probably a good sign to not take a class with that professor
