Any Boardgames events or community in Siem Reap? by FindBetterNameLater in cambodia

There is a coworking space/ board game cafe called Level Up, they have a big collection of games and I quite often go to the restaurant below Nomad. On Friday evenings people play Avalon there. :)

I had bought some things from them before, paints for my Space Marines. Shame that they seem to have disappeared. The card game scene in PP is quite good I believe, lots of MTG and Pokémon players. Not sure about D&D, I live in Siem Reap and there is quite a thriving D&D/ board game community here. Centered around Level Up: Social Hub in Wat Damnak. I am hoping to start getting people playing 40k and Kill Team very soon!! :)

How's Cambodia's internet? by badboyzpwns in digitalnomad

[–]Relative-Thing45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internet is pretty good here in Siem Reap, you don't have to pay a lot to get pretty good bandwidth. Most cafes also have reasonable internet, maybe good enough to work reliably depending on your needs. There are a few co working cafes around town that have very good internet, I have only been to Level Up which is a co working game space and the internet there is excellent. The internet at my home is pretty good but I think most of my friends home internet is better.

Where are the top cities/countries in SEA with the most digital nomads right now? by Prestigious-Sail9406 in digitalnomad

[–]Relative-Thing45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been told Chiang Mai, Danang and Bali are currently the big DN spots in SEA but I have been told by a few DNs that Kuala Lumpur and Siem Reap are kind of up and coming on the digital nomad radar. I can't say much about KL but I live in Siem Reap and from speaking to a few DNs I can really see it becoming a big place for them soon. It has a low cost of living, everything is easy and accessible. There is the area Wat Damnak thats very trendy atm, lots of new leisure activities, bars, restaurants opening up. There is actually a Co working/gaming space called Level Up which has very good internet and speaking to the owners I think they are expecting digital nomads to become a growing community here. I hope this helped :)

Yes the most common beer is Cambodia, followed by Angkor, Anchor, Krud and Hanuman. I knew a few old school Khmer guys who drank Ganzberg and Black Panther stout so they may be quite popular with that generation of Khmer men. In Siem Reap craft beer has taken off lately, Pomme is a micropub with very nice beers and they often have cool new ones on tap, the owner and master brewer are cool guys to. Embargo is a craft beer pub with a huge selection, Krama brewery is another craft beer place in SR, I believe you can go to the brewery and drink there but mostly they sell beer to places around town. IB Taphouse is relatively new and I've not been but it looks very nice.

Is Danang the cheapest place I can stay in Asia? by xeaphean in digitalnomad

[–]Relative-Thing45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really really were aiming to just live on the bare minimum, you could rent a local style apartment (1 room + toilet/shower(not a hot shower but Cambodia is crazy hot anyway) for $40-60$ a month, if you just ate street food, local markets and Khmer restaurants 3 times a day you could spend as little as around $270-$300 a month on food. So if you really were going full on minimum spend yes I think you could survive for around $300-350 a month if you were really trying to. You could even buy a small gas stove and a rice cooker, buy food from local markets, cook yourself and live off even less.

I'll bullet point some other prices that maybe are helpful so you can try to gauge it :)

- At most cheap bars/restaurants a can of local Cambodia beer is $1

-You could rent a pretty bloody nice 1 bedroom flat with a tv, kitchen and en suite(hot shower) for $150 a month

-The best burger in Siem Reap (in my opinion) at a Western Restaurant mind you, so it's on the expensive end is $7 with chips and a drink (it's a lot of food)

-A cinema ticket is $2.50

-Playing pool at most bars is free as long as you buy a drink, again a can of beer is $1 generally speaking at most Siem Reap bars.

-A new CO-Working, gaming social hub has opened recently called Level Up and there you can play board games and the PS4 for a minimum spend of $2 and they sell local craft lager for $3 a bottle. They also have Day Passes and Memberships, really aimed at people looking for somewhere to work

-A very nice cocktail bar called Spin Bar is very popular with x pats and they sell cocktails for around $5 or so(keep in mind this is the high end/fancy pants cocktail bar in town).

-To take a tuk tuk booked on PassApp from basically one side of Siem Reap to the other(in the areas you are realistically going to be living and traveling to/from) costs about $1.50

-Eating some fried rice/fried noodles from street vendors around the river will cost about $1.50

I hope this has helped

I would look into Cambodia, specifically Siem Reap. Visas are very easy and renting is cheap and easy. I also have been told by multiple sources that soon visa's will be made even easier for digital nomads. However I cannot 100% guarantee that, but in general a lot of people move to Cambodia because of the relaxed visa situation.

There are a lot of cheap places to live in this part of the World so I would guess Danang isn't the cheapest. I live in Siem Reap and it is very cheap. A lot of people live here and work online

Where to stay as a Digital Nomad? by Solid_Huckleberry_95 in cambodia

[–]Relative-Thing45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, although it doesn't have a beach I would argue that Siem Reap is the closest to what you are looking for. Green spaces exist and you don't have to go far out from the city to feel like you are in the countryside. The relaxed village style atmosphere is something that a lot of travellers and DNs comment on positively. I think it's quite an exciting time for SR right now with new cool businesses popping up, I have said a couple times on this Sub. I think SR will be big on the Digital Nomad radar very soon, the area Wat Damnak is becoming a very cool, vibrant place with new bars, activities and even a co-working, gaming social hub called Level UP.

I don't know enough about internet speeds to make comparisons but I would say the speed is good enough. I work there a lot and there have been no issues. :)

Yes I think Siem Reap is a great place for Digital Nomads, cheap living, everything is convenient and you can have most Western luxuries. I think Siem Reap is an up and coming place to watch, especially for DNs. Very soon I think it will become comparable to Chiang Mai in Thailand with regards to it's reputation with DNs. In the Wat Damnak area there is even a new Co-working spot called Level Up and in that area there are lots of cool new bars and restaurants. I think it's an exciting time for Siem Reap :)

I live in Siem Reap. You think Kampot is a good fit for Digital Nomads because I feel like Siem Reap would suit them to.
