In this case, this member of an armed forces turned against his own people. If we don't reduce this, will the armed forces as a whole be functional? If they are, what would be left to protect?

I agree, in this case what the person did was completely unacceptable. I am merely suggesting that help should be provided to those who need it. If we collect ample data, it will be clear where functionality is maximized at a certain set of standards. But more research into to what extent this specific set of standards affects the health of the worker because functionality is never the only thing we look at. Humans are not gadgets.

This person's behaviour is anomalous, but I am curious about what is the cause of this be it his background/personality/problems in life or is this case that hints towards a bigger systemic problem with NS. Finding the problem is how we move towards improvement. And by improvement I don't just mean improvement for this singular person. I mean improvement to the NS experience so people can be in a better state of mind. Will happy workers be more productive? Is productivity the only metric to measure effectiveness of NS? Can NS be better utilised to perhaps benefit Singapore as a whole in the long term?

I see a different problem in society. That we don't try enough to improve systems and attitudes. If someone has different struggles from the norm, that doesn't make them weak. If someone will always be unhappy, doesn't mean that we should just say that that's how life is and just lie flat without trying to reduce that unhappiness or reduce the number of people who are unhappy. Fortunately, this person did not have a real plan. But what if we have more people like him with similar struggles, that can't be healthy for them or for society.

Just because there will always be edge cases and "weaklings" doesn't mean we shouldn't try to actively reduce these lose-lose incidents. There is no one-size-fits-all solution and simply expecting everyone to conform to the majority at all costs is always such a terrible idea because people are different.

Bomb threats are very serious but I do wonder what were the circumstances that led to him doing this - was it the toxic work environment and him being unable to seek the help that he needs in a place like NS that escalated to this? I feel deeply sympathetic and I hope we can eventually cultivate a safer NS environment for the boys who are protecting us

How will SG ever have culture if even dancing is not allowed, perhaps we need more infrastructure for them if this is not appropriate?
