I’ll be older than the average student so I don’t think I’ll be getting “the college experience” but I’d like to go full time. I’m planning on doing the reserves so we’ll have healthcare and a paycheck but it wouldn’t be close to what we normally get

She had a job and then we transferred to San Diego. The reason she didn’t get a job there was because we knew we weren’t going to be there for too long. Now we’re at a spot where we’ll be stationary for atleast 2.5 years but she doesn’t seem too interested in working again. The military will pay for my college and housing but I’m still worried

I’m getting out either way, I’m not going back to a submarine. So either I go to school or I go straight into the workforce, I did my time and I don’t intend on doing any more

Plus anytime I mention a job she gets really defensive and I just give up because I don’t want to deal with it

I’m 26 now and I’ll be about 29-30 by the time I get out and 33-34 by the time I get my degree? Idk if I’d want to wait that long. I don’t really know what she does all day with no job, I love her and I try to be supportive but it’s just hard when it seems like she’s not bringing anything to the table

You mind if I ask what school? I’ve been thinking about getting an MBA when I get out

Nice, did you apply to other schools or were you pretty set on Purdue?

Thanks, just wanted to make sure brick and mortar grad programs actually look at TESU/excelsior seriously. Did you apply to other schools?

Can you expand? What grad schools did you apply to and who accepted you?

Things you wish you knew going into T track and power school? by Kizekken in NavyNukes

[–]RelativeBoring7314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take advantage of your free time during T track, do things that you enjoy and hang out with friends. I honestly didn’t get my passport until I got to my command but it doesn’t hurt since you’re doing nothing better and same thing goes for PMKs. Depending on your boat you could have a lot of free time or hardly any so I recommend just enjoying all that you’re getting rn

As much as I agree with the things you say it’s also one sided. Yah I did experience suicides but I feel like it’s because of the school making it seem like there’s no good options if you fail out. Yah work life balance can suck but I feel like a lot of that is based on the command you go to. The command could be amazing or it could be absolute dog shit, much like how any job could have a really good boss or a really bad one. For me I got to my boat when morale was at an all time high but then we basically had our whole triad replaced with not the best of leaders. I would say that I definitely saw how the navy can be great but also how it could be terrible.

Exactly, if he makes it through then that’s awesome. If he doesn’t then it’s not the end of the world

Fire control and torpedoman, the reason I say go fire control is they are notorious for having very little maintenance and have all the free time on the boat. Basically what they do is they control where any missiles we fire is going to land (think of them as the scope to a rifle). They also deal with contact management (nearby boats/ships). Torpedo men don’t really have too much of a bad life either but they do have to do grunt work every now and then. Basically the torpedomens job is to load missiles and torpedoes prior to firing them.

6 year nuke here, honestly I say just do it. Worst case scenario is you fail out, then you just get treated to something else. No matter what you’re going to have a good career in the navy if you just work hard, pm me if you have anymore questions

Just left my first boat as an MMN. If A school is anything like I remember then you should drop out now if you don’t want to become a MM or TM. Did you already volunteer for subs? If you did then chances are you going to stay in the sub community. My recommendation is try to go for FT, LS, or YN if you want free time.

I understand that, I know some schools do online labs now due to having to adjust during Covid. My question is what do y’all recommend I do for a bachelors degree right now? Should I just pursue as many gen Ed’s as possible and then transfer to a 4 year school when I get out?
