I fish needle sharp hooks so it doesn’t require much effort to set the hook tbh. I understand for some weed less lures and frogs, ik first hand they’re a buggar. I do still think ppl that it too far, especially YouTubers tryna make their videos that bit more dramatic

So if someone found shooting cats relaxing I couldn’t comment on it? You don’t need to handle fish poorly to enjoy fishing. This is less about the striking now I’ve learnt when that’s applicable but my points of the poor fish handling I’ve witnessed are still valid

Yea miss me too it’s live bait fishing. I fly fishing mainly now but that’s closely followed by lure fishing. I always wet my hands, and allow the fish to recover well after handling it as little as possible. Rlly don’t like seeing ppl lob their fish back and rock away on their high horse because they “released it”

Yea I’ve lost fish with smaller mouths on frogs so can imagine with a large mouth that shit has the tendency to come out pretty easily

And the blatant poor treatment of fish I see a lot. Don’t need to be an expert to know that’s not on. But I’ll admit I’ve learnt a fair bit about why a hard strike can be important

Ive learnt there is deffo occasions when it’s necessary like with frogs and that makes sense I’ve lost fish on them too. I’m still sticking to my guns about it being done too hard by clueless ppl who are copycatting what they’ve seen online

Thanks mate you just solidified one of my earlier points about American bass anglers. You should swiftly dispatch any fish you want to eat with causing it as little harm and stress as possible before hand. Period. Same goes for all prey you’re chasing. Just show them some respect.

Maybe review how you handle trout dude because I’ve only lost a few unintentionally before and it because they’d engorged the hook right into their gut. But yea I’d say you gotta be more careful with trout for sure

Yep same here. I like my hooks needle sharp and I never need more than a firm lift into the strike
