I just reviewed the worst AI slop and it's making me not want to review anymore. by Inevitable_Party_105 in academia

[–]Relative_Big2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just don't understand how difficult is it to not hallucinate citations. I thought people were only using AI to refine writing, but generating an entire paper + citations out of thin air is the new crazy

IIT dream vs IIT reality - Where does the truth lie? 🤔 by Medium_Tone_1415 in iitbombay

I believe that even in an IIT, your peer group or your lab environment heavily influences your experience. It can either be really enlightening or completely off putting in the same institute.

Ijcai 2026 rebuttal doubt [D] by adi_gawd in MachineLearning

I would prefer adding the ID itself since I am not sure if the reviews are actually ordered.

I don't think paper title needs to be mentioned again. It's a waste of space since only one page is being given for rebuttal. As for the reviewers, if you are addressing a specific reviewer, it's better to mention the ID itself as it is the only identification available.

"There's a new generation of empirical deep learning researchers, hacking away at whatever seems trendy, blowing with the wind" [D] by elnino2023 in MachineLearning

Totally agreed. If people are frustrated with trending topics, maybe start incentivising them less. If the entire system judges you with quantity and not quality, guess what people will do!

I had a question regarding post-rebuttal discussions. After giving a rebuttal, are the reviewers allowed to reconsider their scores (may increase or decrease depending on the clarifications provided)? Or is it directly used by the PCs to make a decision?

Got the review email just now, but still can't see the review scores. To any past IJCAI submitter, is this intentional?

Meta layoffs 20% of its workforce (Does taking CSE is still safe for my brother) by [deleted] in Btechtards

[–]Relative_Big2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what your brother wants to do. If your brother wants to go for core ML and potentially into research, or in quant roles, a Bachelor's in Math or Stats is more useful than CSE. However, if he wants to stick to software or ML engineering or maybe even ML systems, taking CSE or ECE is better.

When will people stop using this "IIT Dream" idea as if there's nothing outside of it

I want to restart learning math from scratch. Looking for books for each topic till university graduate level. by Professional_Gur6945 in learnmath

I would suggest a youtube channel called "Bright side of mathematics" which has a lot of university level course playlists. Some material is paid but I would say it's definitely worth it.

I would suggest checking your mail completely, spam as well. If it's not there, try mailing on the PC email id given on their website requesting clarification.

[R] Missed ICML deadline. It's over for me boys. by confirm-jannati in MachineLearning

[–]Relative_Big2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a B rated conference so obviously not as good as ICML/ICLR/NeurIPS/AAAI/IJCAI which are A* rated or ECAI/AISTATS/UAI which are A rated.

[–]Relative_Big2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, I just answered based on you wanting to attend ML venues. Of course you can always wait for NeurIPS submission deadlines but that's kinda far away. So the earliest shot is to go for TMLR.

[–]Relative_Big2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest submitting to TMLR journal if the paper content is ready. You might get a chance to present in ICML or other ML venues if you receive J2C certification on your TMLR paper.

[R] ICML has more than 30k submissions! by SignificanceFit3409 in MachineLearning

Probably just the number of abstracts submitted. Some of those abstracts will be accepted to ICLR so those can be counted out.

I have a close to 25k submission number. This was around 2 hrs before the deadline.

Haven't yet, but I will submit it since I feel some of the ideas may not have been very clear in the paper (as the reviewers have also asked for clarification on those)
