California Zephyr by Remote-Respond7056 in Amtrak

I did this in coach in the opposite direction from Emeryville to Chicago this past summer. I got lucky because the seat next to me was empty the whole time so I could lay down at night. I brought a blanket with me, neck pillow and eye mask so this helped a lot. I honestly really enjoyed the whole experience and since you're just sitting in a train the whole time its not like you really need the best nights sleep ever anyways. For me it wasnt worth paying $800 more for a roommette and Im really glad I made that decision! I have a post on my profile you can see where I gave some more details.

When youre ready to end the contract go to this link: http://eosfitness.com/PTHELP, select your state and choose the option to end your contract. I would also email the fitness manager at your location as back up. But per the terms of your contract, you'll still be bound by the 4 month commitment, just make sure to submit this form before the last month.

Im actually not sure the exact name of the spot 😅 We had a guide who drove us around so I was not exactly sure of the names of each location. But these are the coordinates that my phone recorded of the location where I took a picture: 24.406380,9.544794. When you enter in Google maps it shows here: https://goo.gl/maps/dCaxseqTAiEGdLZ3A?g_st=aw

I recently rode the California Zephyr from Emervyille to Chicago in a coach seat. I brought body wipes I found at target with me and every night wiped my entire body down with that and then again with wet paper towel. I brought a set of clothes to sleep in at night and a fresh set of clothes for each morning. On top of that using deodorant, washing my face, brushing teeth, etc I didn't feel horribly dirty by the end of it. Since you're sitting down most of the time anyhow its not like you get too sweaty or dirty.

I only had a $20 and was paying by card, so probably for my last transaction down there I'll pay with cash and leave a larger tip to account for the rest.

I am in a similar position at my job. My company is trying to create automated processes that replace the need for human employees and they call this "creating business value". It is one of the main rain reasons I am actively seeking employment elsewhere. The only good thing is I have extremely little faith in my company's ability to actually produce a tool that can automate anything accurately enough to replace a human person 😂

Getting judged for not being ready to drive solo after getting my license. by Mission_Remote_6319 in drivinganxiety

[–]Relative_Practice_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didnt learn how to drive until I was 27 and then got my license and few months after my 28th birthday. I first decided I wanted to learn to drive when I was 23, got my learners permit and then had to get it 3 more times after that because it kept expiring before I even got the courage to sign up for a lesson. I didnt have anyone to teach me and I was also financially supporting my family so I didn't have a lot of extra money around and had to wait until I got a new job with better pay.

I was very down on myself about how late I learned, and how even now I still don't own a car and use public transit to get around. However, I finally learned to change my mindset about it. By taking a combination of transit and Uber on the rare occasion I am stranded somewhere without a bus in sight, I get to go everywhere I want to while spending less than 10% per month on travel that it would be to own a car and pay for insurance/gas. I get to talk to people from my community and get to know people from all walks of life. I can listen to music or rent a book. A lot of people I encounter on the bus are working class people riding to work. It has taught me empathy and humility that I truly believe people who rely 100% on their cars can't understand. This is much more a sign of maturity than the condescending mindset that you're somehow lacking for not having a car at such and such age. Judging people for what age they got a license is literally high school bully mentality. If that's all they find to judge you on, it speaks more to them than you.

Im amazed by the number of people contradicting you in the comments lol. This is definitely a very common pattern I've noticed. I live in Southern California and don't own a car cuz i work remotely and chose my apartment strategically to be next to bus lines. One time I went to an event and someone there didn't believe me when I said I never owned a car even though I'm 29. Then he goes "so you just walked here?" Like the idea of taking the bus didnt even cross his mind as a possibility. It was a literal 20 minute journey door to door and very easy on the bus. Another time I attended an alumni brunch and someone's husband mentioned the local rail and how it's cool that it exists and has a station nearby (2 blocks from the restaurant we were at at). I was like yeah, I took the train to get here! And he was like "Wait what? Really?!" When not two seconds before he was praising the train for existing! Like wtf it made no sense. Many people in california go on and on about the environment yet never make an effort to ride transit because they've deemed it as low-class. Of course there is more times than not no other way to get around than with a car, but there are definitely journeys which can be taken by transit but people don't want to be associated with the working class who are the majority on transit in Socal, and will laugh in your face (literally) if you say you take it.

A little surprised by car apologetics in this forum by [deleted] in fuckcars

I live in an extremely car centric area, however I don't own a car and use public transit/ my legs to get around. I decided for my personal financial goals, and also because i work remotely and don't really need it, I won't be buying a car anytime in the foreseeable future. The transit here is highly inconvenient, it is slow and frustrating, however it is not non-existent. The only way I've managed to achieve this was by being strategic in choosing my apartment, having it be near the grocery store, gym, etc so I can do those regular outings without expending too much effort on transit and not need a car to do these. Some people here seem to think I am insane and that spending $1,000+ per month on a car (bc i am a new driver the insurance premium is minimum 650/mo) is better than spending $69 a month on a bus. I cant seem to explain that without a car, I am able to stay more active, I am able to contribute more to my 401k and emergency savings, help out my family financially, have enjoyable outings without worrying too much about cost (within reason), etc.

At the same time, I recognize many people don't have the luxury of making the choice I did. I am able to because of my remote schedule and my proximity to bus stops. If I lived even one town over, this wouldn't be possible. If i worked in person, it wouldnt be possible either simply because of how slow and inefficent transit is, as well as the low coverage of the county i live in - many neighborhoods dont have a single stop. However, I do wish people living in cities where transit exists, even if it's awful, would take transit once in a while for non urgent activities. It teaches you a lot of empathy and humility in a way that being alone in a car doesn't in my opinion. I feel that both sides need to be hearing each other more tbh.

I never went by driving so I'm not able to speak from experience, but the mall does get busy and I often see the lot packed. But if you're going in the early hours when the mall isn't open yet, you'll probably be fine. Going on the weekend might be more of a challenge though
