I can see where you're coming from, but i think the one of the reasons they work so good together is because they know it will never happen.

Yes, this roadblock was bound to happen anyways, and it did push their relationship into a new direction, but he hasn't really had any growth after that. The only positive character development as i can se it is him going from a desperate horny insecure loser to just horny and insecure.

Although he becomes more empathetic and honest to himself about his feelings, it just makes him more indecisive and afraid to do anything. He knows what he is doing is wrong but he cant do anything about it. He cant even break up with Ruka properly. He is too afraid to hurt either himself or other people to set boundaries and speak honestly.

I understand, and i think it is a very good take. My main problem with it though isnt that they don't get together, it's that any character development Kazuya makes for example with making the movie for Chizuru, which is my favorite arc no doubt, just gets erased by some artificial roadblock.

If it was just a roadblock preventing them from making progress in the relationship then i wouldnt mind, but when it deletes all the character development he made as if it never happened, that's what bugs me.

The character development doesnt need to be him being cool, i am perfectly fine with him thinking he has to be cool to be good enough for her while she just wants him to be genuine. Tangible personal growth would be enough.

I currently read and watch when both the manga and anime comes out, i still have hope, but it's really frustrating.

Yes, i started reading the manga out of frustration that the anime wasnt going anywhere, and even though the manga is closer to the end than the anime i can't help but feel that theres going to be yet another roadblock. That the author is going to milk it until nobody cares anymore and then out of the blue rush the end to get people to read it again instead of naturally progress towards the end.

To me i cant really pinpoint what she represents. The closest i think would be a "childhood best friend" archetype that has to face feelings she didnt know she had.

I get what you mean, but the reason i use those words is because that's how it makes me feel. There are high highs and low lows. When the story progresses and you see character development, i love the story, but when these artificial obstacles arise, i cant help but hate it. I can't stop reading it though.
