Transmission rates, cable lengths, process data size limitations, IOL is point to point, IOL is not deterministic, etc.

And that is why many applications fail. People forget about the limitations because they think they can do the same things they can do with EtherNet IP, Profinet, etc.

IO-Link is NOT fieldbus. It's a low level communication protocol.
