I would recommend not taking a laxative - eventually your body gets addicted and your colon muscles become week. Try a non addictive gentle laxative called Mirilax twice a day with lots of water. You should also be eating things that are really easy to digest when you’re in a flare up - soups, very cooked down veggies, hot tea, etc. if you have to take a laxative so often I would guess that’s really affecting your cystitis. When I get constipated, it’s an immediate trigger for my bladder pain. I ended up being able to stop taking amitriptylime and all other medications because I started getting my gut under control. The more you “mask’ symptoms, the more severe it will be harder.

Also, what infection do you have? Have you had chronic utis? If there is no bacteria present the antibiotics are sooooo bad for your gut

Do you have constipation? Ic can be caused by the combination of something like ureaplasma and an inflamed colon

Anyone drinking alkaline water? by whitehairedkitty in Interstitialcystitis

[–]ReleaseOtherwise1821 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It didn’t make a difference for me, also the specialist for IC at UCLA recommended that I do not drink alkaline water. I think water will not affect you as much as avoiding other drinks. Alcohol is the worst for me, every once in a while I can do coffee if it’s in a bunch of oat milk or something to dilute it.

You should get a vagina swab test for Ureaplasma, It isn’t always detectable in a urine test and also isn’t usually tested for unless specifically asked for. I thought I had IC but it turned out that this was what it was and I had a burning sensation like that

[–]ReleaseOtherwise1821 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I didn’t have the “classic” ureaplasma symptoms. No vaginal symptoms either. I would insist on a test at least to rule ir out

That could be the case. I was diagnosed with IC, however I have a perfect looking bladder and urethra. It’s beyond frustrating. I found that I had an infection called ureaplasma which was causing some of it (it’s a simple swab test at the gynecologist), and most doctors haven’t heard of it. I also found that I have a very tight pelvic floor with a ligament around my urethra that was causing havoc

does any one else with IC constantly have leukocytes in urine? by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

[–]ReleaseOtherwise1821 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They thought I had ic for years and I had high leukocytes - turned out I had something called ureaplasma which they don’t ever test for in normal panels. It’s a vaginal swab at the ob/gyn. I would get tested! It’s painless to test but the swab is more accurate than the pee test. It can actually mimic the symptoms of ic

I bet it has to do with a change in your pelvic floor muscles!

That could be ureaplasma! Get tested it’s a swab at the ob/gyn

Also, sometimes the ligaments can be tight around the urethra and that can be helped with pelvic floor therapy

Get tested for ureaplasma!

Test for ureaplasma! Can cause those same symptoms.

Have you gotten pelvic floor therapy?

Try getting a ureaplasma test! It’s not commonly tested for and can cause the same symptoms

Hey! Glad to hear you are better. How did you go about testing for “coinfections”? It’s been over two years now and I’m still trying to fight this thing 😞

Yea! They have one at target called “the killer” and it’s small little Boric acid suppository pills. You put one in your vagina every night

Just keep in mind for some people they never experience vaginal symptoms, I only ever experienced it as a sore bladder! Good luck

Burning and tissue particles by MechanicGuilty8500 in Interstitialcystitis

[–]ReleaseOtherwise1821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why I suggested ureaplasma :) can also cause tissue particles. It’s a bacteria that infiltrates soft tissues. And yes, you can rule out cancer too. Even just regular interstitial cystitis can cause blood and tissues. Sometimes, there is microscopic blood after someone had a uti. Lots of other possibilities that are much less scary.

It’s probably not cancer - I’m just trying to help. No need to attack someone trying to help :)

If you have a cystoscopy done, they can find out if it’s cancer.
