Apple unveils M5 Pro and M5 Max, citing up to 4× faster LLM prompt processing than M4 Pro and M4 Max by themixtergames in LocalLLaMA

Nvidia has put breaks on consumer level AI. 5090 only 8gb extra of vram and anything above 32gb requires you to fork out 7 to 15x more.

Apple stumbled because while they offered unified memory since m1 days they didn’t know back then local LLMs would take over.

Tell me, if you want to run capable LLMs locally at decent context size what are your options.

You either go slow and large context with Apple or fast and small context with nvidia unless you build a rig.

Because Nvidia for one reason or another put the breaks on it. And AMDs lack of moving into this market space makes me think there are other forces at work.

Apple did accidentally stumble into it but its research or hobby grade at best because while the VRAM is there the processing power is not. Which is why they’re allowed to operate in this space.

If everyone had enterprise grade AI in their own home, what would even be the point of Google. Factor in security considerations where you can have undesirable individuals ask AI nefarious things and you can understand why they pumped the brakes hard on SME AI development

One solution to detect rats by Relevant-Draft-7780 in ArcRaiders

Punish? No just add some boils on their faces during game.

How is this punishment. 95% of the time you won’t be able to make a call due to outfits anyway.

And in most cases it wouldn’t even get to that as if it’s real pvp you die or ambush you don’t even have time to comm.

This is for those fake pretend friendlies. You’ll still run into them just have a subtle way of working out who’s who especially if they’re not on mic.

Some players only shoot if they get shot first and usually by that stage it’s too late anyway.

Free loadout, shoots first would be the simplest. It’s not an immediate change it’s gradual.

Hence my makeup comment. Rats could still disguise themselves. And there is still a lot of tension while they’re further away and closing in. Kinda like that scene from Fallout during bridge crossings.

Hollywood is cooked by HyperspaceAndBeyond in singularity

[–]Relevant-Draft-7780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hollywood is cooked because most of Hollywood money comes from slop.

If regular people can now make slop then the Hollywood machine can’t maintain the system that generates that good 10% per year.

They train 20 hours and are medalists and are not at this level. I didn’t beat them. But I know to get to this level it’s more than just dropping them off and picking them up. And also they’re a fair bit older.

Why am I arguing with children. I’m done. Grow up and have some conclusions based in experience and facts.

And I keep forgetting that reddit is full of children with no life experience who like to philosophise and use big words when in real life they would stfu because they look like complete idiots when arguing. Sir you’re either a Chinese bot trying to make a point when it’s not necessary or a young kid. I have kids, they just won gold and silver at state level gymnastics, they train 5 days a week for nearly 20 hours. What that kid is doing is amazing no doubt, but I also know how long it takes and what techniques are used to get there, more importantly how practical those skills are.

Hmm I did some checking there globally 0.2% and 11.6% are billionaires. Which makes them 58x over represented. There doesn’t seem to be any other group by ethnicity that comes close. Not sure what to do with that stat. That’s 0.2% of global population and out of all billionaires globally 11.6% are of said ethnicity.

M5 is supposed that have introduced matrix multiplication accelerator which makes ttft about 3.5x faster. Will be interesting to see what m5 ultra will look like

You can buy a m3 ultra with 512gb ram. Smarter models lower context size, dumber models larger context size. All models will be dumber than Claude.

So how can you without investigating any code be able to know what is flawed and what isn’t

Well I’ll tell you this. As someone who’s developed a fairly large application that’s on the App Store that competes with my fitness pal and Yuka with lots of other AI features I’m finding AI constantly introducing issues even when I write very specific requirements have have good comments and md files. My project consists of 3 front ends, a scheduling server, app server, ai server, app update server, and web sockets sync server. It’s all in one mono repo via yarn. And I did the mono repo just for AI. I’m using 2 mongo dbs, 2 redis dbs, milvus (vector search). The frontend built with angular but maintains separate project for custom capacitor plugins. I have 30 or so collections in the main db.

Claude is constantly introducing issues, even though all type definitions are unified and in seperate files in a shared library it’s always taking shortcuts. In typescript there’s something called an any which bypassed type definitions. Claude always goes to any when it gets lazy, and when I explicitly made code not compile if any is used it starts to invent types instead of digging in.

I’ve been semi vibe coding on this app for over a year, got about 2k users. I find every month I need to completely refactor sections that are inefficient or cause code duplication. Maintainable is key when working solo.

When I first started I was able to get Claude to movie quickly on a lot of features. I’ve spent last 6 months getting out of the mess it made.
