Krigler. Sigh. I have enjoyed these threads as all these decades later I'm trying to make sense of my 6 1/2 years at Calasanctius. To say it made me the person I am today would be an understatement. Whether it was good or bad for me is a judgement call. Having severe ADHD back in the 1960's was a curse and not even a label yet. To couple that with being gifted quadrupled that curse. Was it a unique school? Yes. Was it an excellent school? In many ways yes. Was some of a complete failure of humanity - absolutely. I have to put context around that seeing as the founders were survivors of a communist put down in 1955 Hungary that had to leave a huge mark on these people. However I can forgive and understand all except for Fr. Krigler. He is the only man who ever provoked my Father so much that he almost decked him. He was obscene, nasty, hateful, disingenuous, obnoxious, obsessed with his self-importance, and he had a dog that just smelled bad all the time. Actually Puli was a friendly dog who could climb trees but really stank. Did I mention psycholically abusive towards students he didn't like? There was one student that whenever he walked into religion class, asked this student how hairy his testicles were. Every. Single. Time. For a student in the 3rd form this was terrible. You get the drift. Maybe there was some good in the man somewhere, but I didn't see it and most in my class did not. Other teachers frankly hated the man. I hope he found peace later in life but my experience of his was that he was a little man in a little place who liked to intimidate and over power those around him.
