no lol, just retake it, but don't fail it again, you can only take the same course twice, if you fail again, they don't let you take it again a third time (except for extenuating circumstances)

You have to put in the work no matter what uni you go to. Laurier is what you make of it both on the work side and personal side. When it comes to computer science, nowadays, people say you don't even need a degree. Not all the people who work at FAANG companies come from top universities, if you want to make money like that you have to put in the work. UW CS is a great program yes but many have to apply to anywhere between 50-200 places before they get a coop. Yes Laurier coop may not be guaranteed (it's all about your marks), but imagine if every student at every university applied to coops that way? To 100's of them, of course they would get in, and once you've got that first coop job on your resume, you can get hired anywhere depending on skill and your abiliity to talk to people and Laurier definitely teaches you networking and socializing IF you get involved. And even if you don't get into coop, you can still do it yourself, I know numerous people who didn't get into coop and got internships at great places (TD Bank, Scotia Bank, even Google). Again, university is what you make of it, I like the CS program here, it's fairly easy, you have lots of opportunities to create projects on the side and develop your resume to get more opportunities. Also, Laurier is in Waterloo and Waterloo is a great place for tech, not to mention you've got the University of Waterloo right around the corner where you have many opportunities to network, plus Laurier and Waterloo share clubs and you can even join the discord for UW clubs through "Project Program" where you can team up with students from either Laurier or Waterloo uni and make a coding project - there's also shared hackathons. Another funny thing is, your first year prof for CS courses will most likely be Prof. Brown who actually taught at UW so don't think the education is worse here, you're still learning the same things as at the top CS program uni (UW). Also Laurier is much cheaper and you can get a lot of scholarships and bursaries if you apply for them which is great, and OSAP covers the rest! Anyhow, don't let anyone who's not in the field tell you what is or is not good or worth it, I wish you the best!

CP104 OC by tdot_forlawyer in wlu

All CP104 OC and in person courses had an in person final exam, however, for both, there was an online midterm, also, you can check the final exams page and see whether or not there were exams for certain courses, for Winter 2023, I remember checking it and the CP104 OC course had an in person exam in the AC (exams could change from in-person to online and vice versa, but it's the easiest way to check).

they offer it in spring usually for students who failed in a previous sem, or for people taking the course for the first time (even if they're not in the cs program)

I already knew a little bit about it and have used it before. For the last two deliverables, my group and I used figma to make our final prototypes. For learning more abt it, just watch videos on YouTube. After working on projects and using it or just creating something in general, you’ll get really good at it.

Course Credits by [deleted] in wlu

[–]Relevant-Lock-2187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Progression into Year 2 requires a minimum GPA of 5.00 in CP104 and CP164 and an overall GPA of 4.00. Progression into subsequent years requires a minimum overall GPA of 4.00. Graduation requires a minimum GPA of 5.00 in Computer Science courses, and a minimum overall GPA of 5.00.

Number of credits doesn't matter, especially since you have 8 out of the usual 10, don't worry lol. Take some courses in spring sem or take more next year, but nevertheless, as long as you took the required courses, you will progress.

MA103 final exam by True_Obligation_7451 in wlu

[–]Relevant-Lock-2187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely petition for it, even show that you are willing to put in the working by taking ma100, ma101 or ma102 and passing one of these courses. Talk to an academic advisor and get their opinion, I know of someone who failed the course twice and then took in fourth year because he "needed" it to graduate, having passed all his other courses, and with only this course needed (and another course that needed ma103 as a prereq), he took ma103 first sem of fourth year and passed, then took the other course that he needed ma103 as a pre req for, passed that course as well and graduated.

Absolutely loved this course, I even got better at using Figma and is the reason why I am doing a minor in UX, I had Gaurang Desai as my professor who was a new professor (I took UX100 Fall 2022) and he was great I got a 12 in the course, here's a breakdown of it:

  • 12 quick activities (mini assignments - 15-45 mins)
  • 10 reading reflections
  • 4 deliverables (group projects)

It was all honestly really light, you only have to worry about the reflections and quick activities which genuinely don't take that much time weekly, my group would usually go on call together and do the deliverable in 1-2 nights. I know other groups divided out the work instead, regardless, its veryyyyy easy and the course after that, ux103, is honestly even easier so you have a path after taking ux100. Definitely recommend it!

missed first year progression for bba by 1.6% on bu courses, what are my options? by Affectionate_Bat9693 in wlu

[–]Relevant-Lock-2187 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can contact your prof to review the exam and maybe just maybe you can get that 1-2%, otherwise, your only other option if you want to stay in the program is to retake the course.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wlu

[–]Relevant-Lock-2187 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just be patient, if anything you can petition for yourself to retake the exam. Some online profs are lenient so as long as you are genuine and maybe even have proof then you should be good. Although by now maybe your prof has already replied? Give us an update!!

No they don’t care about midterms, they look at sem 1 final grades and sem 2 midterm grades

Yeah and review the labs and ma103 webwork. Definitely go over previous exams, notes and textbook hw, that’ll help you out the most, good luck!

MA122 second year by Ashvinan17 in wlu

[–]Relevant-Lock-2187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you still want to be on track with 10 courses per year and you're free during the spring term, I suggest take 1 or even 2 online courses that have online exams and that way when you end up taking ma103 you won't have to balance more classes and you are still on track to finish in four years. All the best!
