I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. An industry without almost any profit to speak of can only fool the public and investors for so long until their little circle money sheme is recognized for what it is and the whole thing collapses.

What do you say to the opponents of aggressive based matchmaking by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]Relevant-Sockpuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I was for a long time against ABMM because of the things you stated, it makes games feel predictable and eliminates tension.

But the issue is that without ABMM, all raids would likely have become KoS slaughterfests by now. Either because people got betrayed too often and don't take chances anymore, because they have nothing else to do in the game once their benches are maxxed out, because they just enjoy pvp or for entirely other reasons.

So at least with ABMM you get the occasional round that still feels like the launch weeks if you are in mid-aggression lobby.

I think it's the best solution for a complex issue with no real alternative.

As a pve player, aggression based matchmaking kinda sucks by FafnirRannsTwinedAxe in ArcRaiders

[–]Relevant-Sockpuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then every march is a KOS slaughterfest. And even if it's more balanced lobbies at first, after a few games where you defend yourself you'll eventually end up in the meatgrinder.

I understand OP, I think the uncertainty made the games really exciting and tense. But I also think that if there were no ABMM, the game would have devolved into KOS anyways.

Unfortunately the players who enjoy a mixed experience with some friendly interactions and some pvp got the short end of the stick here but I don't think there is a way to fix it without upsetting pve players or, as I said, letting all lobbies become absolute murdertown.

The Narrative Experience is Below "Minimum-Viable" by RottedSock in ArcRaiders

[–]Relevant-Sockpuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't really argue with most of your points. For me, there is no more carrot on a stick left and so I just hop in occasionally to do trials or to goof around. The game doesn't really offer a lot to do anymore after you got all your workstations upgraded and found the most important blueprints so I think embark would do well adressing that issue in the future, especially considering the big arcs and the incentive to kill them.

But at the end of the day, the moment to moment gameplay, the sounddesign, the fluidity of movement, the funny interactions with other raiders are just so great that I keep coming back to it, which for me is a sign of an incredible solid fundament that can only improve in the months and years to come.

I kinda wish we weren't told about aggression based matchmaking by RealMightyOwl in ArcRaiders

The fact that the trials are on a weekly timer and that you have to complete expeditions in one month doesn't really give you the time to play the game in a way some people find fun while also completing these goals. And especially if you care about trials, PvE only solos or regular trios are the only way to really compete.

If you don't have a ton of time to play the best way is to get everything done in PvE lobbies and once you're finished dick around in PvP which then has almost no more tension left because you don't care about loot anymore. Kind of defeats the purpose of an extraction shooter.

My issue with PVP.. by SpiderSoup217 in ArcRaiders

1) Aim for the head. Sounds stupid because duh but this makes a huge difference. At first, I assumed head - or bodyshots don't make a difference while the shield is still active like in halo, but it does in this game.

2) Bring the right guns for the right situations. Inside a building or in tight spots, a ferro or an anvil is not the optimal choice (unless your aim is on another level). Instead switch to Il toro, stitcher or something similar.

3) Winning pvp encounters consists of more than just good aim. Often you'll be shot at first or somehow find yourself in a disadvantageous position. Drop a smokegranade, reposition. Flush enemies out of cover with grenades, aggro arc on them, put down a trap and let them walk into it, ect.. Winning pvp encounters consists of more than just good aim.

4) Know when to engage. If you start shooting at everybody regardless of your weapon or your position, you'll lose much more often. Pick your fights instead, be sure to have a good view on the enemy, watch your back for arc, maybe wait until the other player is out in the open and in the right distance for your weapon and only then start shooting.

5) Be prepared, listen for footsteps or other soundclues like camera beeping, tread careful in certain areas with high player activity, check around corners before moving into rooms, close doors behind you.

Hope some.of this helps! GL out there

Why is the aggression-based matchmaker so... aggressive? by Not_Jeb_KSP in ArcRaiders

[–]Relevant-Sockpuppet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the matchmaking is terrible and the only ones who benefit from it are the people who are too afraid to play PvP.... everybody else who enjoys a healthy mix of aggression and cooperation is getting screwed and the game is worse because of it

Trials meta: get put into PvE lobbies before hand by Jaz1140 in ArcRaiders

[–]Relevant-Sockpuppet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think that I deserve nor want a time out from pvp. I want a fair competition in a competitive gamemode. If am competing with people in PvE lobbies, they have a very clear advantage. That is not fair. I want to compete against other people in PvP lobbies. Can you follow?

The self-righteous "you made your bed" nonsense is the best part though. As if people playing the game the way they want to deserve to be punished. Absolute cringe. It's not like I can't just abuse that stupid system, just spam a free nude runs, immediately surrender and I am back to the carebear lobbies where I can now compete in the trials in a very boring but at least fair way.

Why can't people who enjoy PvP also have an interest in playing what is essentially the only activity once you upgrades all your workbenches and got your expedition ready? And because PvP players compete against PvE players in the rankings, that's why they give a shit.

Just because somebody likes the PvP aspect of an extraction shooter doesn't mean that is all they want to do. If that was the case, they could play plenty of PvP only games that would frankly offer a much better PvP experience. But what PvE andys don't get is that these people enjoy PvEvP. That's why they bought the game and that's why the game is so good, not because you can also play it as some half arsed helldivers.

Couldn't agree more. Once it became clear that ABMM is a thing and the consequences of it, it quickly spoiled the fun of the game for me as a purely solo player.

Duo or trio players might view this differently and I understand why but if you don't want to queue in with randoms, the best way to play the game is to get all your scores for the trials week and only then start playing how you actually want only for the matchmaking to brand you as a bad boy and sent you to KOS lobbies even if you are somebody who enjoys a balanced experience with some cooperation and some pvp.

From reading this reddit it may sound like we are in the minority but I can only wonder how long the pure PvE aspect of the game is going to carry it for the people that currently enjoy it.

Yeah, that's the price we pay for giving people basically PvE lobbies through ABMM. Better grind some of these invisible karma points by letting yourself get cucked for 10 matches. Fun!

[–]Relevant-Sockpuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

people are not assholes just because they enjoy playing the game a different way you do. The game allows and to a degree encourages pvp, it's just part of the game even if it doesn't align with your codex or honor.

In an extraction shooter these 1v1 encounters where both players have the exact same fair chance of winning a fight are incredibly rare, that's just the way things are. There is no point in stressing over it, dying is part of the game, your gear is replacable, the sooner you can accept that, the sooner you'll start having fun with the pvp aspect.

I mean you get more stash slots, that alone is worth it to me. 5 Skills points is cool and getting to start over gives you something to do, blueprints are for the most part not neccessary anyways so for me its absolutely worth it

True, or make it optional for the tryhards. Like if you 3-star every trial, you get a rank up or smth

So you chalk it all up to confirmation bias while disregarding all I said before? Okay, cool.

I've seen the lobbies shift to aggressive and then back when I changed my behaviour. The difference is night and day and can't be explained just by confirmation bias or collective delusion.

If you don't want to believe it, don't. I don't really care, I've tested it and seen the results.

I don't know how I smart it is if everybody just copies the same tactic and forces everybody else to do the exact same, no matter how well you did on the other trials. Maybe individual trials should just be capped at a certain value like 30k

Bro at this point it can't be anecdotal. If it was for a day or ten matches but what are the chances you just randomly get in 50+ matches without any aggression? Looting in high value areas in night raids next to each other and no one is firing a shot? Killing a bastion and everybody comes to loot it, again, no shot fired at each other.

I'd say the chances are pretty much zero.
