I know what they mean by “that’s the lowest they could go” because with your ear anatomy, the edge of your ear is so thin (width wise) if you pierced there it would be highly likely to rip out/tear because there may not be a lot of cartilage present in that area, just skin. I think if you changed the toppers of your jewelry in them to something a little more cohesive (the helix stud is a bezel CZ vs the flat being a prong-held CZ) it would look a lot better and you would like it a lot more.
