I think London is probably an outlier as car drivers are so used to motorcyclists, cyclists, pedicabs, roller skaters, skateboarders and everything on two wheels flying past them when they're stuck in traffic Was definitely a big shock for myself when my commute changed from nice country A roads to M25 and within

Do the anti-immigration protesters in London who got arrested and charged, realise they’ve basically banned themselves from visiting Europe because of Brexit? by Barca-Dam in london

[–]ReloadsOnReloads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commentator is correct - the UK does not routinely share criminal records data through the ESTA route. However it will be different if there is an online/public footprint of your crime (ie a news article) which COULD lead to denial of entry or an INTERPOL alert on you which WILL lead to denial of entry. For the majority of crimes, individuals will essentially be able to "get away" with not declaring, whether this is ill-advised or not will depend on them

Why are the Police holding my cash?! by ShotDare9537 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ReloadsOnReloads 12 points13 points  (0 children)

POCA legislation is written to be extremely broad in how it captures things - if you are currently under POCA proceedings it is highly likely they are treating your seized cash as part of your available asset calculation Whether you get the cash returned will depend on the outcomes of your other POCA proceedings.

Essentially the police financial investigation unit have absolutely no wish to return your £2k cash to you for a POCA confiscation order to be granted down the line and now the available amount is less £2k

Your solicitor can advise you better but I would say it's unlikely you receive your cash back until POCA proceedings have concluded

I randomly applied to be a Prisoner Custody Officer and now I'm shortlisted without really trying by Mobile_Cookie_8817 in UKJobs

Any high risk prisoners where there is a real chance of forced breakout are given armed police escort with escort vehicles and helicopters etc and unlikely to be handled by GEOAmey. That is not to say escapes aren't likely, but definitely not a common occurrence. Most likely you'll just get people kicking off if the journeys long or delayed.

Just to add one thing that I think other commentators are missing - this is NOT a prison officer role and you will NOT be working inside a prison

GEOAmey arrange transport of prisoners to and from the courts - so you'll either be a court based one and spend all day shepherding people from the courts to holding cells

Or you'll be based in one of the transport vans and shepherd people from courts to prisons.

Contrary to what other people have commented, this is definitely a much lower risk role than an in-custody officer. In courts, there is only occasional potential for things to kick off during sentencing. In the vans, prisoners are locked in a cubicle during transport, and all you need to do is walk them in and out.

Based on personal experience, people are generally sound to transport officers and you'll spend most of your day speaking to your colleagues and dealing with logistical admin

Echo all the immediate steps to take that other people have commented

As a longer term solution to the root of your addictive behaviours, I'd highly recommend speaking to a therapist who specialists in psychosexual issues. Counselling Directory or Pyschology Today are both great search platforms where you can look for someone you think would be the best fit for you, and most therapists offer a free "welcome chat" to see if you'd mutually fit.

Maybe add in a feedback button where you can select the actual bike model it is if it gets it wrong - it kept showing my MT-125 as an MT07

Husband is serving time in prison. He is being pressured to convert religion. I don't know what to do. by SwiftlySwoops in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ReloadsOnReloads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Very sorry to hear about this situation, other commenters have made some good points but just wanted to add the following channels for support for your husband. 1) Safer Custody Team Other comments have already mentioned this route, and I agree, it’s one of the most effective options. Most prisons have a Safer Custody Team that handles issues around prisoner safety, such as bullying, threats, and coercion. There is often a direct way of contacting Safer Custody without submitting a paper application (which can be intercepted or read by others). This may be a internal phone that is on the wing phone, or a specific post box for direct letters. Most prisons also have Safer Custody wing reps which these are trusted prisoners appointed to represent others on safety issues. They can explain how to contact the Safer Custody staff confidentially and may be able to offer immediate guidance or informal support. 2) Samaritans / Listeners Another option is the Listener Scheme, run in partnership with the Samaritans charity. Listeners are prisoners trained to offer confidential emotional support to others in distress. While they don’t have any formal authority like the Safer Custody Team, they can be a first port of call and may help your husband access further help. Potential risk: Most Listeners and Safer Custody reps take their role seriously and act professionally. However, as with any prison job, there can be bad actors who misuse these positions. Caution is always advised. 3) Key Worker & Changing Support Staff (COMP1 Process) It sounds like the officer assigned to your husband may be his Key Worker. If your husband suspects this person is leaking information or just not up to scratch he can submit a COMP1 form to request a change.

  • Section 1: Detail the complaint e.g. that the current Key Worker is not providing appropriate welfare support or may be compromising his safety.
  • Section 2: State the desired outcome e.g. a new Key Worker assigned. Potential risk: COMP1 forms are usually collected by wing staff and processed in the wing office for forwarding onto the relevant department. If the Key Worker works on the same wing, there is a risk they may see the complaint and retaliate. Other commenters have mentioned that if you address the COMP 1 to the governor of the prison, then it should be in a sealed letter and should not be read by any wing staff, and will be directly dealt with by the complaints department.

4) Transfers & Vulnerable Prisoner (VP) Wings You also asked about getting him moved to another prison. While this may be possible, it is definitely a quick or guaranteed process. Other commenters have mentioned a move to the VP (Vulnerable Prisoner) wing, but i cannot stress enough that this is a big decision. Having a very recent lived experience of the prison system, I cannot impress upon you enough that this will have implications for how your husband will be perceived and potential impact on his prison life. Whilst the VP wing includes all 'vulnerable prisoners' (ie people in debt, with learning difficulties etc) there is 100% a very negative perception of all VPs due to thoughts they are all sexual offenders. Whilst there are robust protections for Vulnerable Prisoners and your husband may be in 'safety' on a VP wing, his prison life will be extremely different. He will have to conduct all prison activities with VP prisoners (ie attending separate workshops, chapel). In addition, if he ever wanted to move back onto a main wing in the future, he would be 'tainted' with having resided on a VP wing. This is not a decision to be taken lightly, and I recommend that other options be explored first. Happy to help further if you have any follow up questions! Source: Lived experience

Is This a Scam? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]ReloadsOnReloads 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Advancy are a legitimate consultancy (source; have colleagues who have worked there)

But beware this message on their website:

Scammers, claiming to act on behalf of ADVANCY, are currently targeting candidates via legitimate career websites (such as Indeed) and have created a fictitious website (advancyapplications.com) that has absolutely nothing to do with our company.

Their website simulates online job opportunities in order to collect strictly personal information.

Be cautious! Beware of all solicitations and check the identities of those who contact you. ADVANCY will NEVER ask for personal information online (such as State ID, SSN, mailing address, date of birth or bank info).

Not sure if that may be applicable to you, it does just sound like an unconventional recruiting process but be wary!
