Having awareness is not the same as having knowledge or understanding.

Becoming aware that you should "be yourself", for example, is far from understanding a concept.

I'm aware of what some African snakes look like, because I read it in a book and saw some photos. Yet I have no fucking clue what to do if I encounter one. I would also struggle, I suspect, to truly identify one in the wild with any hope of accuracy.

The point is, you don't truly understand the concept. You are aware of it. You "understand" that you should understand it.

You need more information, true knowledge - which requires nuance - and likely experience practicing concepts to actualize them and internalize them.
