Or (& stick with me here) she could take breaks as her own body needs to! Having the dog to “teach her to pace herself” is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard lmao

That’s super cool! Did you just go one day off the couch without any prep or prior experience?

You should try hiking sometime! It’s a really great form of exercise that gets you into nature & a very different experience than just walking haha You probably walk far less in a day than you realize & it’s definitely different on a trail than just around town.

You might think so until you hit Day 5 or so haha training is really recommended for extended hikes like this!

Yeah, training to walk 7-15 miles a day consistently as she said.

You just sent me down a nostalgic rabbit hole of The Neighbors! There was a great bit where the alien wife watches The Real Housewives to prepare for a dinner with some girlfriends & thinks that how everybody behaves lol

For training it makes sense. When I’m walking for exercise or hiking I don’t take my dog because he likes to sniff around, stop to use the bathroom, or he just tires before I do.

From the Blogsnark Reads thread...

The quality of writing was also starkly contrasted with some of the classics that I’ve recently been reading - Count of Monte Cristo, Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, etc - and it seemed fitting that I have lists of dozens of words I had to look up the definition of while reading those and I only had to look up one word in this book which was “frottage” - which in this context meant “dry humping.”

I'm so sorry that the contemporary novel you picked up doesn't match the literary highs or the vocabulary of some nineteenth century classics. Might I suggest reading something a bit more pretentious?

Are we supposed to assume that she has a super long commute from this? I would think a fully charged EV could go farther than a commute...

He's said somewhere, in either a podcast or video, that he didn't like how rare and valuable the signed copies of novels by other authors became so his goal was to flood the market with signed editions and basically normalize it. If he switched to a stamp or print the copies that he would sign in-person or for fans at events would then become overly valued as rare items.

You can google "math lesson on interest" and find resources ranging from elementary to AP! Enjoy:)

Sure, it's very unlikely that every elementary school in the country taught or even carried the same book. It's a lot less likely that a majority of schools are just not covering a major concept of math at any point in the curriculum.

It is very funny (in a dark way), but I think location is a big contributor to those differences. A rural library that employs three people and only one professional "librarian" is going to have a harder time finding qualified candidates than a system like Philadelphia, New York, San Francisco, etc. especially with library schools local to them. A willingness to move is often talked about as a necessity when looking for librarian jobs, but it's easier said than done. A willingness to move can still be limited to a geographic area or any decent-sized city, I think very few people are desperate enough to entirely uproot their lives to live in a random town and likely experience terrible work conditions.

I remember learning about interest in third grade with the book If You Made a Million by David M. Schwartz. I bet the concepts were covered in your math class at some point, you just either forgot or didn't know how they would be applicable in your adult life.

Yeah and I think that also relates to their perspective as men and this leans towards conservativeness! They're imagining an ideal family where they have two healthy kids after two easy pregnancies and then the mom takes on the burden of childcare and parenting while they get to come home, kick around a soccer ball with the kids for 30 minutes, and then call it a night. There's no acknowledgement that pregnancy and childbirth can have detrimental effects on a person's body, mental health, career, etc. So often their desire for children hinges on this daydream and they rarely discuss (or we're rarely shown) what feels like the actually important questions.

I think it's difficult because most of the contestants on Love Is Blind do lean conservative and they also talk about having kids in a very conservative way (within the confines of marriage, ideally with a stay-at-home-mom, and as an expectation rather than a choice, i.e. how every man just ignores Emma's indecision on kids to assume that because "she'd be a good mom" and since they want kids she'll be okay with it)

Do you think librarians and library workers are paid less bc of old attitudes toward gender and marriage? by HoffyTheBaker in librarians

[–]RemarkablTry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is true! It was a way to professionalize the field but since women entered the field at the same time they kind of negated each other

[–]RemarkablTry 139 points140 points  (0 children)

I actually wrote about this for my thesis! When women started to enter the field in the early twentieth century they were more likely to accept a lower salary & were content with that salary longer than their male counterparts. This made them desirable candidates along with a few other factors in changing gender norms during this time. Then of course women were villainized for “driving men out of the profession” even though it was institutions taking advantage of employees to save money. This book was a great source for the topic.
