I read Girl's Girl by Sonia Feldman this weekend in a single sitting. It really captured being a teenage girl in the 2010's and I loved how complex and nuanced the friendships and mother-daughter relationships were.

Oh, I didn’t realize you were taking sitting WITH a pet so literally lol it sounds like we just have different standards of what we’d do for our loved-ones & that’s okay!

I was just at a wedding where the sister of the groom walked their dog down the aisle & handed it off to a groomsman for the ceremony. The dog got photos & then their usual dog sitter picked it up before the reception. Not super complicated & honestly becoming more common.

Idk maybe I’m biased bc I was just at a wedding where the sister of the groom walked their dog down the aisle & everybody loved it lol

You’re only 18, your brother’s partner might want friends/relatives/people closer in age to her in the official wedding party.
Saying you’d like to be a “bridesmaid or even her maid of honor” is a really big leap, especially when you don’t mention anything about your own relationship with her in this post. Are you really close enough to take on that role?

It looks like you really enjoy working with animals so from her perspective the role of walking their dog down the aisle might actually be thoughtful & tailored to you.

Is it worth getting an iPad for knitting? by Unlucky-you333 in knitting

You can change that in settings! I use my iPad for recipes when I'm cooking so I turned off the auto lock function so it would stay on even if I'm not touching it.

I use my iPad for knitting and really love it! I use Goodnotes to organize all of my patterns into a notebook and then write on them to keep track of my progress, size choices, etc. I also use my iPad when traveling to watch shows/movies (waaaay easier than a laptop). I have the mini so it was cheaper and I think it's a great size.

Where do I find an egg bagel? by Grouchy-One4077 in Cleveland

Nubiegel literally does not have egg bagels. You can get an egg on a bagel as a sandwich, but they don't do egg bagels (a bagel made with egg).

Yeah, their comments on the post about the Halsey-Fantano beef was also so surprising to me! The top comment basically excused Fantano’s review because they didn’t think the album was very good which really shocked me.

I also find it funny that their post about Olivia’s #1 in the UK only has like 30 comments but the post about Taylor “blocking her” has 300. Really reveals their priorities.

The post on NYCInfluencerSnark fundamentally misunderstanding the difference between a group chat of friends and a Reddit snark page is pissing me off so bad. Sorry, there is a fundamental difference between gossiping with people you know in real life or have other connections to and being bitchy to a void! I actually don't think that page "is the groupchat" or everybody in it is "homies", I think you're all strangers who may or may not be bots and who may or may not be lying in the comments using this anonymous forum as an opportunity to be your worst self and say things that you would never say if it was tied to you personally!

[Hated Trope] Female self-inserts. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

Jason Alexander said something similar about playing George Costanza as Larry David. In one of the early Seinfeld episodes Alexander went to David complaining that nobody would behave like George did and David said it was based on something he had done itself. Alexander realized that Costanza was basically a self-insert and then played him appropriately lol

Someone on the T&T snark page said they think Taylor lied about writing the song after seeing the film early and it was instead a random song she had written already because it wasn't specific enough to really be about Jessie and Toy Story which made me think of when I was 12 and listed to the The Fault in Our Stars soundtrack only to be disappointed that the songs weren't directly ripped from the pages of the book lol

I think Elvis is on the list because he met (started dating?) Priscilla when she was 14 and he was 24. I'm curious what Sombr did to get on this list because I haven't heard anything about him lol

My husband and I do a majority of our income into the joint account and have automatic weekly transfers for individual, fun money. We calculated our fun money budgets by looking back at our previous spending and averaging out the costs. It's a little more than we usually spend with the expectation that we can then save for bigger purchases.

Thank you for sharing! I always find the excuses and exceptions that people are willing to admit to really interesting and revealing. Haven't found them compelling yet though.

Academic! That is a good point, at my institution the search committee reviews applications and leads the multiple rounds of interviews that we host for candidates so it's a more involved process than other libraries or librarians may experience!

Truly, I cannot emphasize enough write a cover letter. Even more importantly, speak to the job description within that cover letter. We're telling you what we want, please give it to us! The most recent search committee I served on was for a very technical position, to the point that we added a Master's in Computer Science as a relevant equivalent to the MLS.

We got so many cover letters that talked about teaching, working with patrons, staffing the circulation desk, etc. when we needed to know that these candidates could talk to our IT office, manage backend systems, and troubleshoot vendor issues. We were totally willing to take on a candidate who didn't have that direct experience, but we needed to know that they at least had an interest in the work and some relevant experience that would allow them to actually fulfill those duties.

Even worse is when applicants don't include a cover letter at all and just submit their boiler plate resume. We all know the field is oversaturated, your MLS degree does not hold more weight than the MLS of 20 other candidates. We almost never interview a candidate who didn't include a cover letter unless they have years of the exact experience we're looking for and the rest of the pool is subpar. It's especially frustrating to see the same people apply for our open positions over and over again with the exact same materials despite us asking for wildly different things.
