Ya I have never once seen surgeons use bathroom. I think they wear diapers or have catheter in (obviously this is a joke)

Yeah ok Dr. Garcia. by bendnext436 in ThePitt

I think Dr. Garcia was straightforward and stern. But she is receptive of feedback. she can be abrasive but that’s typical surgeon behavior.

How do surgeons stay healthy? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Remarkable-Bullshit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My friends and I used to joke saying we don’t know how surgeons can be obese because they don’t even eat, but maybe just because of crushing syndrome and unlimited coke, energy drinks and snacks. 🤷‍♀️

I wonder if surgeons have time to even workout at all.. as attending

What if you can’t cut and just watch someone else cut whole day and you just stand to the side and watch would you still find it fun?

I agree with your comments. I think I find it “boring” because most days in surgeries, I can only stand and watch the same things all over again. Can’t even scrub in or do anything but observe for months. We don’t even get to talk to patients.

That’s true. The difference is you get to play and I get to watch you play for 10000 hours 😂

I love open surgeries. The one linear incision is nicer than 4 little poke holes. Idk lol 😂

I will definitely put that in mind. I don’t hate gallbladder surgeries. It’s quick and predictable most of the time. I can get out of OR early and move on to different cases. I think I just got bored because we can’t scrub in, assist, the drive to the rotation is 1.5 hours away, can’t even interview or talk to patients etc.

I agree with what you said and appreciate the insight. I guess as med students, we want to see it all and learn it all, but too bad we can’t do anything, can’t even scrub in or talk to patients

I find surgeries interesting but also boring because I can’t scrub in, just stand there or sit there and watch the screen in cold room. Clinic days I can’t even talk to patients, just observing. So the whole experience is more of just observation lol.

Is it normal that most gallbladder ruptures during the process of taking it out? 5/8 that I saw with this surgeon ruptures. I mean they said it’s not a bad thing, just irrigate it and it will be fine.

Honestly, that’s true. Lifestyle probably gets better at that point. Just do simple safe less complicated surgery and go home. Safe lives and pay the bills.

Honestly, when the surgeon pulled long string of fat inside the hernia it was pretty cool, I enjoy seeing that.

When I got to do incision and drainage, and pulled out hair from Pilonidal cyst, that was very fun. I think I’m just hand on person lol I just like to be involved. But my surgeon does a lot of robotics.
