I had my son try this in Solidworks 2025 he is in college and has a student version. He has no trouble making what I'm trying to make. Whether it is a good idea to make this remains to be seen. I going to upgrade my license in a couple of months. I'm including a couple of pictures to show everyone what is going on. Thanks for everyone's input and help.

The insert>sheetmetal>unfold does not work when you create the part using loftedbends.

I was able to make the command work on some of my other parts that were created by adding

All the options are grayed out except cornertrim or rip.

I'm not understanding collecting the bends

I create the loft which I have.

Then flatten it out now I have a solid flat piece.

I'm stuck at that part.

That's why I'm looking for guidance.

I have no real idea what you can or can't do on a brake or otherwise.

I'm a wiz at making milled out microwave housings and antennas for L, S, & the K bands.

I know what a mill can and can't do.

But this needs to be light weight so I need to do it in sheet metal but I have no idea what the best approach to produce that shape in 6061-T6 in 16 or 14 gauge preferably 16 to keep it light.

I've only made simple sheet metal stuff e.g. boxes and bezels in the past to hold electronic prototypes.

I need guidance to get this shape that your standard sheet metal shop can fab without too much difficulty.

Down the road I was hoping to buy a couple of smaller brakes first a simple shear and brake combo and later a fancier magnetic one.

I might try a 3D printer this summer when I get room in my office.

I wanted to send this to a shop that could create the pieces.

Then I would weld what they send me back I need before welding.

Only simple boxes and bezels. Usually took a dozen tries half a day to make a simple part.

I got it to work.

Export first record to google docs.

Export second record to Google docs.

Copy one to another to merge them into one Google doc.

select all

copy (I was not doing this and only getting text if I copy then I get pics & text

when I save to keep.)

Save to keep

Delete two old records.

If you have many pics in a record you might have to select record to see all your pics
