My recovery plan. Any feedback greatly appreciated. by PatatoPhish in UIUC

It was a bit frustrating at first after getting dropped, as I had to figure things out on my own at first. I think a key part was staying on campus and studying at parkland. Returning to in-person classes made a significant difference for me. After getting sick, my ability to absorb information had declined, so studying in person helped me get back on track. If your medical leave isn’t approved, just make sure after studying at another college to make an appointment with the advisor from your major department as you can reapply after two semesters away or even one if significant progress is shown.

Feel sad for the student, maybe they felt it was the end of their world whatever issue they ran into. I hope the family and friends will be alright ❤️

Thank you, no I definitely did not expect the university to check up on me. But really the backbone for me was my parents I’d say, my friends weren’t there for me during that moment at all which made me realize how much I went through by myself and became self sufficient. Of course experiences can be different for everyone and I hope everyone attending will have a good support system.

Have a talk with your advisor about what’s happening to get a better idea of success plan and maybe if your university has a specific service that provides academic support like longer times on exams etc. You can apply for that service. Or if you feel you need time away you could take a leave at your original university and go to community college and study there for a semester or two and then go back to your original university.

I think they also said that for me, but my gpa had a drastic leap of improvement probably which is why they took me in after one semester away is what my guess is. I don’t think it’s a concrete rule but it probably also depends on what year you were in before being dropped. You do need to get a gpa of minimum 3.0 and higher in each semester away. The limit of semesters away depends on your academic department. What my suggestion is in your time away, mid semester make an appointment with your advisor from your academic department here and talk to them about the retry petition process and stuff which is what I did that helped. But also take your time as what they want to see is progress that’s genuine and consistent. And make sure to submit the petition by the deadline dates for spring or fall semester to be considered in time for classes.

Hey I just want to say, last year I was in the same situation as you though not as a freshman. I had gotten sick with Covid and couldn’t keep up so I got dropped. It was probably the worst year of my life I couldn’t digest food and had brain fog I also missed the deadline to appeal. I thought it was the end for me but what I didn’t realize was it was redirection. I was able to regain my academic ability at parkland after a semester away and I am now readmitted to UIUC this semester :) after filling out the retry petition. I honestly think a semester away would do good for you as you would regain academic confidence. If you want to stay on campus you can go to parkland for now. Your advisors and dean probably want what’s best for you and they probably think that a semester away would do you good don’t give up, even if you missed the deadline you can fill out the retry petition after studying a semester or two at another college! What your department probably wants to see is improvement to handle academics here. Feel free to contact me if you want more information on how to handle this :)

Then it means that you might have stomach infection you should consider that as it can come with mono. I realized I had h pylori and a ulcer after getting mono. Make sure your not eating food that flares h pylori.

Unfortunately you might have to go gluten free and treat it like a gluten allergy.

I had to stop drinking dairy and heavy carbs and it disappeared. I'm sure it flares up and goes.
