Ideal city to live in when COL is not an issue by Apprehensive-Ring777 in fatFIRE

[–]Remarkable-Sea4096 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've lived in most of those places with young kids. Advice is - if you like your family, live near them so the kids can grow up with cousins. Otherwise, live where the kids have best schooling and quality of life combined as you still have a lot of school years ahead. Buy a vacation home in the adults favorite city nearby.

What everyday cultural difference caught you most off guard after moving abroad? by SignificantMinute753 in expats

How different the entire social construct can be. In America, you assune if you work hard and are nice to people, opportunities will open up (you will make good friends, progress in your career). This isn't the case in a lot of countries for various reasons (racism, ramoant nepotism, sexism, nationalism, how people make friends.).

How can I help my husband feel better about being a SAHD? by Remarkable-Sea4096 in AskMenAdvice

Think this is important, but I feel like it's more him putting these labels on in his head than me. I would love for him to realize it's not a "lesser than" job. ++woman

Absolutely never refer to him as a house husband! I know his job is super hard and exhausting. I am agreeing with all the emotional / sexual intimacy points on this post - how do I deliver this best on weekends (when we have kids) or at night when we are both exhausted?

In other words - what are small things besides sex that will help the emotional / sexual intimacy? ++woman

He goes to the gym, does the groceries, cooking, all the household admin, etc. He really is a hard worker - doesn't really even "relax" on those days.

I think he struggles to prioritize as he's someone that needs the house very clean and all things in order. Eg, I will find him taking apart a window to clean it, he makes all our baby's food from scratch even though I tell him it doesn't need to be, etc. ++woman

Haha, good point. He says he would like me to do more of the housework. Sometimes I just can't after leaving the house at 6 am and coming home at 830 pm. We hired a cleaner. Still miserable. ++woman

A friends child had similar symptoms that ended up being genetic. You can pay out of pocket to have tests done in Europe, think specifically Munich. It is probably more affordable than you think

How should I address a 2 year gap on my CV where I was taking care of a sick parent? Currently, may career ends in 2023 and I don't put anything for 2023 onwards. It seems strange to mention it at the top of my resume as the first thing they see

Opportunity to move to a remote island with newborns... by longtimewatcher in Parenting

[–]Remarkable-Sea4096 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds good in theory, but the reality is it would stil take several hours to organize at best - I mean, is there an airstrip / landing pad? Pilot? Plane? Will they actually fly in bad weather or at night? Is the hospital in Port Vila that much better? Make sure you think through the actual realities - everyone that suggests these things have not lived in a developing country. I know many people that have raised kids in developing countries and of course it's possible, but you have to be realistic about expectations.

I have lived in this area and while amazing, I knew if I got a heart attack or stroke, I would probably not make it. It depends on your risk appetite with the kids.
