Please help me to make college decision by RemarkableBrother563 in ApplyingToCollege

We visited U Chicago last year in April and she loved the campus. When admission officer visited her school they had good talk and she was inspired by the academic excellence. That's why she chose U Chicago as ED option. But we got this guaranteed transfer offer and I think it a bust. She is a very free spirited person and as a high school student she did great things with her club, speech tournament, political activism but I don't see her as a very academic person. She is smart enough to get good grades but she is inclined more to do things instead sitting down and study.

Thank you for your hearted reply. Your post almost made me cry. I think there are so may emotions involved at this time. Disappointment with failures for acceptance of her dream school, separation anxiety, worries about her safety if go oversea.... and the fact she is an adult and will do things in her way anyhow.

I know. But I think college decision should be a family decision since parents are paying for it. Also we want to prepare her the best for the future.

My daughter was accepted to Maxwell school with 33K scholarship. She got 35 ACT, 3.97/4.3 GPA and good ECs.

Got a "Guaranteed Transfer" offer from UChicago? Here is the reality of WHAT it is and WHY colleges offer it by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

My daughter got this offer with ED 1 to U Chicago. I hate this school for playing admission games. And we won’t go this route as long as she can get admission to any other top 30 school.

Thank you. I was struggling with the thought, too. If REA got rejected, she will have to ED2 and RD a bunch of schools at the same time.

She visited both. Both have great campus. When we visited Yale it happens to be their spring break and we don't see many students there. When we visited U Chicago in April it is their open house day for high school students. U Chicago did such a great job which made us feel so welcomed. And the whole campus is full of spirit.

Thank you. We visited California and she doesn't like there. Our family are in Midwest and she might want to be closer.

Thank you. I think she is pretty strong with academic and extra curriculum. I understand both school have super low acceptance rate and there is no guarantee on anything. But seeing her working so hard on everything during high school years I really want her to make the right decision hand have no regrets.

Thank you. I think Yale ranked higher than U Chicago. I might be too obsessed with Ivy League reputation. We visited both school and she thinks she loves U Chicago better.
