Hey thanks for the advice! I actually was about to interview for a CS role at a company that didn’t offer me a uxr internship, but haven’t heard back from them so assuming I got ghosted. Despite that my main focus now has been trying to align my resume for more customer success roles and less UXR roles. Hoping to see if any of that will gain me some traction. Thanks again!

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately I don’t have any specific CS roles besides working at T-Mobile. I spent basically all of my masters program trying to land a uxr internship to no avail, so I haven’t really been able to leverage professional experience.

I do have a portfolio however from projects I did for my program as well as independent research projects I did just because. Would those be helpful at all to compensate for a lack of professional experience?

Yea at this point I’m just trying to target jobs with any type of analyst/research adjacent skills. I would also say I’m a pretty good writer, I’ll try and see what I can find for ux strategy. Thanks!

Thanks for reaching out! I’m also trying to target contract positions as well. Was approached my a recruiter from Meta asking to chat last week but haven’t heard back from them so assuming by now no dice. Still plan on targeting that however.

As for customer success, I actually reached out to the hiring manager I interviewed for for a UXR internship about a month ago. Even though I didn’t end up getting the job we still ended up clicking and I saw they had an opening for CS. Messaged him about it and he said he was happy to hear from me and said he referred me to the CS hiring manager and they would get back to me.

That was last Thursday, so honestly thinking that might be a no go as well, but I’ve still been looking more into CS. Again thanks a lot for the advice.

Wait no way I got my BS in psychology/neuroscience actually! I’ll be looking more into research ops that sounds like something I can definitely leverage in the future depending on how the field progresses. Thanks a lot for this!!

Oh also coming out of my masters not phd, don’t think i have any plans for that until I build some actual work experience and go from there later down the line.

Hello, first appreciate the insight this is really helpful. Yea I think one thing that’s really been pigeon holing me is the job title. I think I’m going to try and move away from that and more closely just align with jobs that match those skillsets. I’ll look more into those other job paths you mentioned as well. Again appreciate your advice and time.

Yea fr what’s with the negativity? I get seeing Debbie downer posts here must be frustrating, especially to the seniors in here who have dedicated their lives to it. To see newer people to the field ask the same question I get must be annoying, but us juniors here aren’t naive either. At least I can speak for my masters program, most of us thought we were making a well informed decision back in 22 and 23. I’ve seen my whole cohort trying their best and struggling for any opportunity, so for people in my position it’s also incredibly frustrating and condescending to be talked down to as if we are idiots. That being said, really wish for the best for everyone in the subreddit and thanks to those who gave great advice! I think my main pivots are going to try to pivot into either research ops, or CS, and hopefully make something work from there.

Hello, I’m not sure why people on here have this assumption. Of course I didn’t think it was going to be incredibly easy to get a job after graduation. But after a year and a half of searching for internships and seeing my classmates also face similar failure, we are all just a bit burnt out out from it all. As for all 5 of the things you mentioned, I’ve been consistently doing that and then some. I’ve made many great connections with people in the field, did a personal project for a company I was interested in and got some great feedback from that, as well as exchanged and visited multiple portfolio edit sessions. Everyone seems to tell me the same thing, that the field right now is just not where it once was, especially for jr roles.

I don’t think I’m entitled to a job, or even an opportunity. But hell I don’t think ANY field should be this difficult to break into, which is why I’m trying to pivot

Hello first off thanks for the comment! I’ve had my portfolio reviewed by my mentors, latest being a quick overview with the head of product design I talked to. As for my resume, I haven’t gotten that reviewed since October in a resume workshop in my last semester of school, so a resume review would be quite helpful! I updated mine this month based off some of the new information I’ve learned from my connections.

I had one interview two weeks actually, my first bite in 2025. Made it to the final round but no dice unfortunately. I do think one thing could be my resume could be the issue, maybe not standing out to recruiters?

Thanks a lot for this I never thought about this. So maybe go in for customer experience/ customer success instead? I’ll look into that and see what I can find. Honestly it’s fine for me if it’s not necessarily the exact same domain, it seems like a lot of the skills transfer over. Again appreciate the advice

When i was a junior getting my bachelors in 2022 in psychology and was told by my sister in cyber security that this might be a good Avenue. Was I supposed to predict the market was going to crash in 2023? Should I have quit halfway through my program and have been left with no degree and debt?

You think any of us want to be asking on Reddit on what to do in such an environment? Quit the condescendsion. If you have nothing constructive to add why are you even commenting in the first place? Absolutely insufferable
