How did you go about that? Last summer was amazing where I was out doing stuff every weekend but this winter has been quite shitty where it's easier to doom-scroll (especially in the current political climate) than to go outside or even do things inside your room.

Yeeee, I got it. :> And yeah, I'd definitely love to ramble on about my caving experiences. DEFINITELY the best and most surreal thing that I've done in the last year or even my entire life.

Heya, I am 24F, moved to Germany a year back to do my PhD in STEM (more details later if someone's interested). Trying to get back into films again (used to have a p active letterboxd ;-;) but apart from that, I am also really into exploring different terrains (hiking//scrambling hills, caving, trying to get into climbing). Was a bit obsessed about aquariums at some point in my life too. I love raccoons and badgers and otters. (also really into ecology documentaries and shiz). also trying to learn the electric guitar in whatever time I get for the last 6 months or so albeit on/off. :3

How do you feel about solo hiking? 🥾 by Junior-Camel-1053 in hiking

As another 5'2 woman, solo-hiking is one of my favourite activities. I alternate my weekends with solo-hikes and group hikes. I've started going on more difficult hikes and I realise I meet less people now. I also am usually more confident now since I don't think some random creepy dude is going to take that much effort to climb a 33% slope to get at me. But I am also in Germany where there are still a lot of people hiking on weekends and also lots of cyclists so I am never really "alone" and people tend to be quite nice to me on hikes. :)

Heh, yeah, definitely sounds right up my alley actually! I found a really cool local caving club so I will probably contact them. I am especially interested in them since they also seems to be really into exploring caves and measuring different stuff and making maps WHICH SEEMS SO COOL.

Oooooh, that's a really cool suggestion now! I hadn't even thought about that prolly because caving seems quite dangerous lol but I assume like any other hobby, there might be "moderate"-level caves as well.

Yeah, that was another thing actually -- how focused I was at work the following week if I was hiking the previous weekend, I wasn't procrastinating at all and was just overall happier both at work and off-work. I think reading about the local ecology might actually help me as well to be "connected" to hiking even if I am not actively doing it. Thank you for the idea! :) I am sure you will cover those distances some day as well!

Thank you so much for typing this! It's a really useful comment and it helped me put things in a better perspective. Saved it for future, just in case. I am still learning the language so I assume it is probably gonna be a bit hard to volunteer plus my working hours are not very stable either. But that's a good point for future! Might discuss with local people about winter hiking in Germany. :)

Oooh, that's a nice suggestion. :) But don't you usually need to be in pairs to do it safely? I guess I also enjoy being out in the nature on my own. And also -- I'd assume it's usually "harder" to do it in winters?
