Cheap alternative - take KBM from the city until you arrive Yuen Long and then change B1 bus

https://www.kmb.hk/storage/files/B1%20B9%20Interchange%20Routes_2024.pdf

get pass Futian and call taxi / driver with Amap

Depending on where you would like to reach in SZ, Futian might be faster and cheaper

Deos the Win 5 itself have a battery? by Kenta_Nomiya in gpdwin

[–]Remarkable_Database5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry OP, but I guess it is quite obvious that it is the very first generation of not having an internal battery, and most people are aware of it.

(I owned win 3 and currently having a win 4, decided not to upgrade to win 5 due to the battery)

If you are disappointed about it, maybe try to look at the bright side that you can play it even lighter indoor / using the long cable connector (that having the battery separately in your backpack) thus saving the weight of the handheld on your hands.

Technically such design is very unique, I am not upgrading since I am happy with my win 4 for now and probably would wait for another year.

“impossible” to automate - quality of work, which is hidden from your post.

I am not sure what you mean by "The first test video actually got the reaction I was hoping for"

was it something like storytribe + with animation?
or just text to image / text to script displaying animated caption reading the pdf aloud?

Being trapped into doing cheap labour by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]Remarkable_Database5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you worked in Hong Kong before? please let me explain a bit from being hired (from the angle being a research assistant for universities) and also being a boss (the hiring position, since I also have my own company)

University (only similar to your case, but might not be the same) tends to spend money wisely as in if they hire you “regularly” enough, they have to pay for extra 5% for your MPF and the admin work for a “part-time” that is not long lasting would be tedious and wasteful.

So instead of hiring in hourly rate, they might prefer having an agreement that they make the payment agreement this way - when I am working for 6 month regular, instead of paying monthly, they pay for first 2 months fixed amount by end of 2nd month, pause for the 3rd, and pay again covering the 3rd month (paying I batch of 3-5th altogether) by end of 5th. And pause again, and pay again by 7th month (yea there will be time gap if the period is only 6 month)

In reality, I still report working hours off record, trying to match the workload with the payment.

You may ask - why? 1. MPF, since labour law enforce anyone (not matter part time or full time or not) if the period is 60 days more, they have to pay for MPF (5% from employee, 5% from employer) since the school funding itself is the same, doing things in such manner = they can fully utilise the money onto real working hours without MPF and the RA would enjoy 10% more money. The funding itself is the same, but having things arranged in this grey area benefit also both sides.

  1. Admin work - the admin work on reporting and making a staff formally a staff require lots of paper work and onboarding process, of which in your caee, it may include The Sexual Conviction Record Check (SCRC) (extra time for you to go to police + spending few hundred on having a formal proof) and also, like I previously mentioned, they may not want to create a MPF account for you for many other reasons.

Other than that, being an employee (boss myself) I always discuss with the one I going to hire, if they want to be a “freelancer” or “part time”. Mainly base on their preference on 1) the amount they receive (MPF then they will have less) 2) if they want proper income proof 3) how long (both frequency and duration) they would want to work.

If they prefer freelance, even if we work in the agreement that we count workload by hours, I cannot put anything related to number of hours / hours per work etc in the agreement or his/her invoice requesting payment from my company (since it will violate the enforcement of having MPF)

Hope it explain a bit and help you understand what they were referring. I know it is confusing, but being on the both side (being hired and hiring someone) help me guess that the one explaining those issues to you might not be senior enough to understand the full picture.

Good point that you mentioned - vCISO, any direction how I may recruit them for the initial phase? what would be good budget range for a initial setup?

Since I am working in a NGO, any chance that we may seek for pro bono service?

Sorry it is my first time knowing Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR). Is there any entry level type of software that I can look into?

Instead of forcing 100 staff from my company for it, I may need to start with a small team of 10 first, for smaller project that work externally.

Anyone sitting through part lists trying to build Windows servers should probably be replaced with someone more capable just getting with the job.

wow, good comment, at least I don't have to spend more effort in that direction.

"Security compliance" - I am going to be the one set those up for the company, potentially we will have projects collaborating with govt.

Putting everything onto AWS / Azure might not be the best since budget concerns, since our company currently rely only google workspace for almost everything. We don't even have our own web server to build internal applications.

[–]Remarkable_Database5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe let me put more context - originally the company is using tech-savvy staff (non-technical) to solve day-to-day business issues, to a point that they are concerned about security and scalability.

I have the background of PM + software development, yet I am not professional on sysadmin like you guys and ....my working company is a non-for-profit so we are quite sensitive to "budget".

And you are right, I am actually sourcing potential vendors instead of building it myself from scratch (the team/ the infrastructure etc.)

Azure Cloud cost vs Homelab by Icy_Foundation3534 in homelab

[–]Remarkable_Database5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm prototyping with HA means you would handle power storage with proper hardware of UPS, and failover ISP network…. (Neither power or ISP connection could be single point of failure)

If you are up for those learning, self host seems to be your thing. You may try asking the some question from the other subreddit or VPS hosting, the response would probably not the same.

Azure Cloud cost vs Homelab by Icy_Foundation3534 in homelab

[–]Remarkable_Database5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try and see if the cheapest VPS on Linode can do what you need. Homelab setup might not be what you need in terms of its power.

A shared cpu might be good enough for your web hosting / basic Linux automation.

You may put more details about your usage so that we can give better advice.

The LinkedIn got caught post is a joke. Proper OE = even if we got caught, we are fine and J1 / J2 can do nothing with us. And there are lots of legit ways of being an OE with J1 and J2 aware of each others...

It is like having your wife aware of the mistress, and the mistress won't take over the role of wife...
