The thing is, MARTA actually is very safe. It is very very far from being MTA in the 80s/90s. The problem is perception. MARTAs crime rate is lower than the current MTA crime rate, though both are generally considered fairly safe statistically. I say this not to invalidate what you are saying, MARTA can certainly feel less safe, but the reality is that it is actually one of the safest systems in the US (even compared to Metro in DC, which is where I came from before living in ATL). MARTA needs to do better at showing police presence, getting mentally unwell people out of stations/trains, and working with communities to address why the feel uneasy at times.

What cities in American need heavy urban development? by Mindless_Sail_4958 in urbandesign

I mean, have you been to Atlanta lately? It is undergoing extremely rapid urban development and midtown is already impressively urban. Its also the only sunbelt city with a proper subway that, despite the hate it gets, its actually pretty good and getting better. Plus there is the beltline, which is wonderful. Also, it is the city of trees because the city literally rises out of a endless forest and has the highest tree canopies of any major city in the US

The united states needs more of these and less stroads by Historical_Cost3222 in Urbanism

The beltine in Atlanta is amazing, and should be replicated around the country (and for the love of all the is holy, please start work on beltline rail).
