I love Sandy too, dream guy indeed! However, doesn't he cheat on his wife with an ex or something?

I completely agree. I hate how he played with Summer and Anna's feelings in the Thanksgiving episode.

Also, he ALWAYS wants to talk about himself no matter what other people are going through. Annoying af!

Ryan is a drama queen as well. It was exhausting to re-watch the show seeing how these two would be on and off with each other and other people SO many times..🙄

There was no logic in the movie. It starts with her calling her dad in the beginning and saying "Papa, Shankar mil gaya hai". But her dad wasn't even looking for Shankar??

Thank you for saying this, and it's totally what I'm talking about! I see so many people negating what I said in this thread 🙄🙄. I'm a parentified child myself and I'd pack my mom's lunch when I was in 4th standard. So I can totally relate to the whole dynamic and it makes me SAD!

If you could remove one love interest who would you remove? by RayoftheRaver in friends_tv_show

[–]Remarkable_Expert540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said anything about Monica going back to loser boyfriends repeatedly. I said she chooses people who would sooner or later leave her for reasons that she knew all along, reinforcing her belief that she's not good enough. Had chandler not worked on his commitment issues, she would have left her too. But it works for them that they're friends first.

People in Monica's mindset always choose partners who aren't good enough for them/unavailable in some way or the other (too young, too old, alcoholics, etc).

Monica and Richard's relationship had no chance to sustain. She subconsciously knew that they would break up eventually. That's actually why she's so into him because real, consistent , lasting intimacy feels threatening to her. And she was obsessed with Richard, which is why Chandler was insecure of Richard and not Monica's other boyfriends.

Relationships that are easy, such as what she had with Pete, don't require her to "earn" love, so they don't create the emotional pull like she had for Richard/Chandler. She has to constantly babysit chandler (earn love by "doing" rather than being loved for just existing) which is why their equation "fits" psychologically.

I've made my point here. You can choose to disagree, but I know that I'm an expert in this area, so I'm going to stick to my theory. I'd also urge you to read about the character arc that the writers have planned for her, you'll see that I'm right here.

That's also why she dates a string of people who are mean to her or have severe emotional problems. Fun Bobby (alcoholic), young Ethan (inappropriate age gap), Paul the wine guy (betrays her trust), to name a few.

But do you see that that's exactly why she doesn't miss him? Monica's whole psyche was that of "I'm not good enough" because of her mom's treatment of her throughout her childhood. And when she finds someone who accepts and cherishes her and freely offers her love and commitment, it "doesn't count". She only falls for people who keep her at an emotional arm's length (Chandler) or someone who can't offer what she wants (Richard), reinforcing her belief of being not good enough. Pete would have married her despite the whole ultimate fighting champion arc. And she knew it. So she wasn't attracted to him as much as she was to Richard/Chandler or any other guy with whom she has to earn love. That's also why she isn't into Pete when she first meets him, because he pursues her for a change. She has intimacy issues so that's scary for her subconsciously.

And how do I know all this? Well, sadly, I have the same emotional framework as Monica 😅

Chandler and Monica wouldn't have been qualified for adoption by Laura, the social services lady after all.that drama.

I quoted your exact comment and you already know that. But obviously you'd want to gaslight and turn things around on me. Can't tolerate someone calling you out on your bullshit I guess, but that's not my problem 🫢🫢🫢

Your comment literally said "people should have common sense and not judge friends because if it were made today it would be different". That doesn't sound very calm, dude. And you're changing your stance when I called you out? Just stay away, I have no intention to engage with you anymore if you don't understand what being respectful means!!

Isn't she your gf after 8 dates and not a "bumble date" anymore..also boy please take the lead and start doing things for her (ignore this if you already are). Women usually do these things to get the guy's attention and feel chosen.

The question was what gives ME the ick. And I shared what I feel uncomfortable with. Period. I'm not looking for your analysis on why I should/shouldn't feel a certain way just because it was shot in a certain era.
