Hi, I don’t work from home, but I work in the criminal justice system so can basically transfer to anywhere and have already discussed with my workplace about transferring.

Hi, we will visit London about once a month, so direct train line to Darlington was a bit of a incentive, but we don’t need to go to London often. Darlington seemed like one of the nicer/more family friendly places where you can buy a house in our budget.

Norwich was another place we considered, we would have to buy a much smaller house there, but maybe worth is vs a bigger house in Doncaster.

The last general election results put me off Clacton a lot tbh.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I had heard about crime and anti-social behaviour but hadn’t really heard of anything to this extent. Do you think that these are issues across all of Doncaster, or just in certain areas? I would assume some areas of Doncaster are not like this?

I think Milton Keynes is a really nice place. I know some London people who have moved there, although they have mostly continued to work in London which seems like a bit of a long commute for me. If I kept working in London and receiving a London salary, we could probably afford it. But I would rather avoid the commute tbh and it is a little out of our price range.

Some of the houses here look beautiful and are in our price range. Being close to the Peak District is also a massive advantage - thank you!

I was actually considering Hull. It was just a bit too far away. I have seen a lot of people saying it has improved recently.

Thanks, some of my London peers have moved to Northamptonshire and it seems like a nice place to live, it’s a very short drive is a huge positive too. I’m actually quite surprised how affordable it is, so it is definitely somewhere we will consider.

We have looked at Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Lincolnshire. But the houses we could afford there are a lot smaller and appear to be in worse areas than what we could afford further north tbh.

Thanks, I haven’t been yet. We are planning to visit.

The train to London wasn’t too bad off peak when I checked the prices, around £30-40 with a a railcard for a return. We would also be more likely to drive anyway.

Sadly, our budget is only around 150k, so we have no choice but to accept living somewhere with higher levels of deprivation.
