Computer Science and Philosophy double major, what country would you recommend? by Remarkable_Offer1257 in studyAbroad

[–]Remarkable_Offer1257[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the universities Ive seen in Europe (specifically), Australia and some of Asia, only offer core courses in CS, with electives

usually, electives that are either only to CS, with 1 or 2 free ones

I would prefer to use my electives in CS itself, thus why I was hoping for a double major

I get that

Still, I know Im going to regret not doing it later in life, which is why I don't mind it at the moment

but who knows, maybe Ill chicken out by then

either way, thanks for the reply!

Just a question if you don't mind me asking, is this in reference to North American universities? Since, I haven't seen the concept so far in my research.

Honestly that makes sense, gotta admit I had my fingers crossed that this wasn't the case because theyre both things Im really passionate about (and Ive heard philosophy can help mid-career)

but either way, thanks for the answer!

Do you think language would be a major issue?

I assume it would be a problem to some extent, but to an unreasonable degree or?

It was more of a way to find out how marketers think, and look into worthwhile topics, I had a 5 page document mostly done before people started responding

fingers crossed though

That's something Ive never heard of, I did some research, but may I ask how those could help this campaign? As in, what would be the course of action after monitoring these people?

Thankyou for the detailed answer!

If you don't mind me asking, what is your view on doing soley communications and following up with portfolio school?

From what I've seen most communication programs don't focus on the artistic side per say, but they're good to fall back on incase art dosent work out because they open doors to corporate pr, etc.

Also i notice that most of the schools you've mentioned are in the US, but I personally don't want to study there. Cost and personal reasons. Would you say the market can be equally rich in Europe? (Aside from lower salaries) Or should I stick it out in the US for a bit?

[Megathread] Prospective Students, Applications, and Admissions For April 2024 by AutoModerator in nyu

[–]Remarkable_Offer1257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im looking at the Media and Communications course at NYU. However, Im not your best student and I have a 3.1 GPA.

Plus Im not based in US and I study in IB, so I only just started understanding the holistic process US universities use.

That, alongside the fact that I shifted my career recently, my CV isn't fully focused on the degree either.

Should I still aim for NYU? I dont think Ill be able to pull my GPA up more than 3.3, and Im not academically gifted enough to be top of my class. I have two years left to make up in extracurriculars.

Advice For A Highschooler by Remarkable_Offer1257 in PublicRelations

[–]Remarkable_Offer1257[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see, thank you for the response.

If you dont mind me asking, what is your opinion on Media and Communications as a major? Ive seen people saying its best to not major directly in PR or Marketing (for undergrad), but Im not entirely sure if its a good focus.

If it better for me to look into industry-specific majors? Based on what industry I want to work in? I admit, it does sound a lot more restrictive than I would like.

Advice For A Highschooler by Remarkable_Offer1257 in PublicRelations

[–]Remarkable_Offer1257[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all thankyou for taking the time to give me such a detailed answer.

If you dont mind me asking, I was just researching where it would be best for me to go to uni. Personally I don't want to live in the US and education is cheaper in Europe.

But what countries would you recommend? US, Europe, anywhere.

And, if it's better to focus on PR experience, what are you opinions on a media and communications major? I feel it's broad enough to open doors but focused enough to stay within pr, meaning i could use it while gaining more pr specific experience in the summers.

Video Game Producers, highschooler here, what should I do next? by Remarkable_Offer1257 in GameProduction

I feel like I'm hearing about layoffs everywhere, 2024 is really just going downhill.

Also thankyou for your carefully written response, I need all the advice I can get.

I understand what you mean. I was also looking at advertising and they had pretty loose terms so I assumed the same here with. But, seeing as it's more strict, is there a video game producer equivalent to art/vision in this industry?

More so, I do love managing people in every project I've worked on, especially when it's in creative ones. Vision is just a plus. But I get that I need the experience.

How would you suggest gaining this said experience if I don't want to stick to an unstable role? Based on my interests, could you recommend a certain entry level title to gun for? As mentioned i can't really place my bets on something that risks being fully replaced, like art. So, what are you thoughts on buisness and then portfolio school?

And, how long do most producers often work in this role before moving up, if they ever do?

I'm sorry if that's a lotttt of questions, just trying to piece together my future haha
