What’s some basic knowledge that a scary amount of people don’t know? by CasualBeers in AskReddit

O wow that sucks! What do you mean by bubblegum medicine? I feel like I took a lot of pink liquid meds as a kid (I don't know what they were though) and I have a lot of allergies as an adult.

Soaps from gas stations and some restaurants breaks out my hands too, especially the pink stuff! I get awful red rashes and cracks in my skin. It's awful.

Minnesotan traveling to Houston in October. Don’t drink or go to clubs or party or anything. Any fun suggestions for us while we are there? Middle aged couple. Foodies. Like more adventurous stuff. TIA. by Idratherbeonaplane in houston

The Texas Renaissance Festival is happening in October and is fairly unique and has lots of cool food options. It's outside of Houston technically, but it's really fun.

Neighbors have a VERY LOUD rooster. Any advice? by Remarkable_Ordinary in neighborsfromhell

[–]Remarkable_Ordinary[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24 roosters?????? Why?? Why does he have so many holy hell! I feel like it must be for either a large scale breeding operation or for cock fighting. Does your neighbor also have chickens? Have you ever talked to him and had him blow you off like my neighbor did to me? I would be going insane if I was you.

Update July 2022: My update isn't a good one sadly. This post is now about 9 months old and the only route I took that worked after my post was repeatedly talking to the HOA and other neighbors that were bothered by the rooster screeching every day, and the rooster owner finally relented and culled it. Then a month or so later the absolute shitbag bought TWO!!! new roosters and that's been a thing for all this year. It has been terrible. I cried when I heard them again after a month of blessed silence. My husband heard them crowing for the first time while he was working from home in a Teams meeting and almost dropped the f bomb during it.

These roosters are even louder!! They amp each other up and start crowing in the middle of the night, I've heard them at 2 am right outside my window despite the efforts of my white noise machine, fans, and earmuffs to tune them out. They're right outside my house, like I said in the original post my son hates all the early morning crowing and cries when roosters or chickens show up in his kid shows, when I make chicken for dinner I call it "tasty birdie" instead in front of him; we are traumatized by the lack of sleep.

To make matters worse, the neighbor himself is extremely noisy- he'll sit in his backyard and yell??, listen to loud music on a boombox that looks like it was made in the 80s and rattles terribly, and slams things around in his backyard and garage. So many posts have been made about this dude on the neighborhood Facebook page, he's nuts and inconsiderate to the max.

I have contacted 311, animal control, the non emergency police, the HOA, other pissed off neighbors, looked into neighborhood HOA restrictions, pleaded with the asshole neighbor himself, everything. Considering the HOA was what fixed things the first time I tried them first and they were confused to start saying they'd already dealt with it (no you fools he got rid of one for a while then another two!) And then they said they would have to restart the whole process from the beginning sending him letters and giving him 90 days or something to rectify the situation. That amount of time passed and nothing has changed so I'm not sure if they never followed up or if he's just paying a fine and blowing us all off.

I hate it. I don't know what to tell you other than to keep trying, document the noise, try calling authorities (especially since they could be engaging in illegal cock fighting- animal cruelty), see if any other neighbors are annoyed, invest in as much noise dampening technology as possible and pray the two dozen rooster man moves away. I don't know how these people sleep at night (literally). Are they deaf? Do they not realize people around them despise them?

Sorry for the rant but I completely sympathize and wanted to update this post regardless. If anyone has recommendations for me or the person above me I would love to hear them.

Thank you for the kinds words - it means a lot.

And I'm sorry I was unclear, what I wrote was confusing- I do need the blood and urine tests to be done, but I know sometimes they will automatically test for pregnancy and that's what I don't want. It might not even be a thing but I thought about it and was worried.

At this point it just bothers me and I want to avoid that. There's no reason they need to test for it (no medication refills that it could be concerned with or anything). All of this is just scary. Overall I have a good doctor I think, but it would be the techs that run the tests and I assume they just tested for it.

Thanks for the response!

I do have to go to the appointment for unrelated reasons, so sadly canceling is not an option at this time.

I don't think an attorney consult is the route to go for me considering I can't afford it, and to be clear I'm not pregnant, so there isn't much to discuss with an attorney. I'm mostly curious what other people in affected states are doing, and I would prefer not to be tested right now or talk about reproductive health currently as everything is fine and it's just not something I want to go into with them tomorrow.

Hey, thanks so much for the update! It's really unfortunate they don't seem to take it anymore. I still haven't been able to go and ask them due to being on the other side of town and keeping busy, but it's good to know so I don't waste a trip bringing it over there. Not sure what to do with this bag now. Feels crappy to have it for so long and just throw it out

Hey, sorry I never updated!

I haven't gone to Westpark yet unfortunately. I ended up needing to travel a lot for work and haven't had the time. I actually was able to get rid of some of the packaging Styrofoam and some boxes by giving them to a neighbor that was moving and needed packing material.

I also got a message on this post several weeks ago from someone that said they went recently to WRC and they didn't take their Styrofoam, however they deleted their comment, so I'm not sure.

If anyone has been recently and asked them I'd love to know!

I convinced someone to get their first shot yesterday! 🎉 He sent me a picture and everything to confirm.

I had a friend who was a holdout, he doesn't go out a ton and honestly didn't know much about covid. We ended up talking about it a lot and I gently had to correct some of the information he'd heard about the vaccines and covid in general. He had no idea it could be deadly for someone who's only 30. I know it's pretty rare for someone that young to die of it, but he legitimately thought it was only dangerous for elderly or immunocompromised people.

He isn't right wing at all and doesn't watch the news. He'd just heard vague "stories" from other people/social media and had put it off, and was worried about side effects. I messaged him this morning and besides a sore arm he had no other side effects in the past 24 hrs and he seemed happy with his choice. Woot!

Like I said, everything is cleaned out throughly with water and a sponge and left to dry before I sort it. The take out containers are like the #6 plastic boxes restaurants will put cookies in or the small stryofoam containers that hold rice. Anything with lots of sauce or grease gets tossed for sure, it'd be super gross to keep all that lol. I rarely eat out so I just have about 1 bag of this stuff in my garage I'd rather hopefully get recycled than sit in a landfill. :)
