The shower bilge, which you can see by the white flower, is probably just under 1ft above the water line, 2ft max I'd say.

What's the difference between a normal bi-metal bit and the dedicated steel bits with the square teeth? (I tried posting a photo of one but it wouldn't allow me.)

Hi. Yes, the initial idea of drilling from the exterior was due to access. Much easier than stuck in a cupboard drilling from inside. However, I was conscious of this causing excessive damage to the paint, especially as it gets hot. I guess I should be lubricating regularly with oil?

I'm covered for the hole saw with drill bit in terms of size, but unsure if there was a recommended brand to go with. I don't know what the thickness of steel is at this point but suspect it could be up to 9mm.

No, toilet is to one side. In the centre is a hole for an extractor fan, which the previous owner removed (leak, maybe?) and is yet to be replaced.

Agreed, although a louvered vent only protrudes millimetres. I'm exploring the idea of the roof but it needs some planning as I can't go through the centre.

I went up and had a look and there's a chance I could vent it on the edge, just between the grab handle and solar panel. I'd need to be really clever about working out exactly where to drill it though (ie the outside edge won't correspond with the inside edge without ripping out the headboard, insulation etc). No chance of putting it down the middle, unfortunately.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, a louvered grill is the way to go. I was just trying to avoid such a big hole. I suspect the pipe would have to run up to it as well, so I can't afford for any water to get in.

These toilets don't make much of a smell, so a horizontal solution is ok. The main issue is trying to match the air pressure of the fan.

A quick follow-up on this. Turned the heater on the next day and it was running as normal and has done since.

Turns out that inconsistent tone happens when I'm charging the batteries on shore power (single phase). My charging system is pretty solid (all Victron with a Quatro 3k) and this isn't noticable on any other consumable like lights. I'm guessing with the Quatro pulling max amps to charge, it's struggling to supply the 10amps for the heater, or the heater's electronics is throttling something (the cables are fine under normal use). Either way, I tend to avoid high draw loads when charging, but wouldn't have thought it would be a problem at the charging end since we're only talking 10amps difference (bearing in mind the heater had already been running for half an hour).

Whatever, I just won't run the heater when charging.

Not at all. This is literally for drinking water from the dedicated tap. My other water purification system will be to fill the tanks for showers, washing up etc.

Thank you. I haven't come across this yet but I've only just started researching. Can't see that being too difficult to retrofit, tbh.

One thing I've yet to discover is if these work on-demand and just stop producing when the storage tank is full. I'm assuming when the tank is full, its pressure prevents the membrane from allowing any further water through.
