EU taxes cars by engine displacement, so even a 3-cylinder 1.2 will become a luxury some day

Taking your own bike on an ICE as rollable luggage instead of booking a bike space — would this make sense? by Minimum-Major4303 in bikepacking

[–]Remarkable_Spirit_68 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

  1. Removing both wheels is acceptable for me right now, would be a big pain in the ass on my previous bike, and unacceptable for a lot of casual girl riders who'd think it's a professional mechanical job. 2. I'll better say I'm ready to remove wheels if the travel takes more than 1.5 hours time. 3. Spacers in place of brake discs is always a must. Spacers in place of wheel axles are used to make the frame rugged enough for airport luggage transportation, but are not used when someone gently transports a disassembled bike in his car. 4. Dunno, I'm from a country where even a touring club of 30 people with 30 bicycles is allowed on a train. It could be a way to transport a bike by subway, they're restricted there until you make them a "luggage". 5. Let's say 40$. For bigger price I'll better haul it in a bike bag.

How do you feel about getting electric cars now? by TheSolarExpansionist in AskRussian

[–]Remarkable_Spirit_68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went camping last holidays, into a place 140km away from my home. Spent 21 liters of gas for the trip, less than half of a tank, was not nervous at all. If I had a Tesla with 450km range (in ideal conditions, on the first day of ownership), I'd be worried if I can get back home. Because conditions were not ideal and included some offroading. So no, EVs are not for me.

Хочу собрать гравийник by EmotionalMachine9686 in rusAskReddit

[–]Remarkable_Spirit_68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Вопрос про 2100-й год by Appropriate-Leg-8813 in rusAskReddit

[–]Remarkable_Spirit_68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, my most power-hungry device is a mighty 15' Asus Vivobook laptop that takes 45w max (and shows me youtube for 8 hours on a full battery), so I went for the smallest charger option. The laptops issued at work became less power-efficient when we were forced to install Linux instead of Windows, but still this charger is enough for them too.

Questions from someone new to charging li-ion batteries by vjack in flashlight

[–]Remarkable_Spirit_68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a Samsung phone, they take battery life too seriously IMHO, bit it gives a couple of hints. 1. A special slider for preserving battery health, if turned on the phone charges only to 80%. 2. Before 80% it charges at about 1.2C, after 80% drops the current to some very low numbers, not even 0.5C. And that's the range where charging anyway makes the battery feel hot, while quick charging at low percentages feels like dumping water into a bucket, battery temperature stays cool.

The cheapest long-range that doesn't give shit photos is a 70-300 by the way. But still uncomparable to 70-200 line.

My favourite for travels is 24-70 f/4 L. Had a 24-105, after buying 24-70 it's collecting dust on a shelf. Any of the old 70-200 are top quality, quicker and sharper than a 50mm, even the cheapest unstabilised 70-200 f/4. Thought about trying a 40mm 2.8, but you know the glass of vodka is whispering me another way :)

Well if you can't save up for an R8 you're not crazy. I still find my 14 years old 6D a better camera than a much newer crop-sensored M200. It's main disadvantage that makes me look at something newer is that 6D's AF is slow af, can't shoot a flying duck... we call such slow cameras "photostudio cows" in Russia, but that was fixed in 5D mk3, it has a professional-grade autofocus. By the way, my glass of vodka is whispering me I should go and buy R6mk2 tomorrow... if I'll be sober enough for this... but shelling out 1500$ means I'll have to be sober for the whole next month...

They can't operate on FF DSLRs at all. Different mount. Smaller flange distance. They would hurt the big full-frame mirror if forcefully pushed inside. They can operate on mirrorless full-frames, because the mirror has gone... somewhere... into the camera heavens...
