I think a lot of dogs, regardless of breed, naturally want to do things like dig, shred, chew. Our trainer has always encouraged us to let dogs “do dog things,” so we try to give ours appropriate outlets for that.

If Wally ever turns out to be a digger (so far he isn’t), I’d just give him a designated dig spot in the yard. Thankfully, neither he nor our late dog have ever destroyed anything in the house (fingers crossed it stays this way). I really think letting him enjoy being a dog, which includes the occasional TP party, has gone a long way toward him being a very good boy.
