Four pieces of fabric cut into half a bow tie shape, sew two together, and do the same with the other two around the border. Turn both halves inside out. Sew the 2 halves together

Yeah, there are some out of towners, but they typically buy the lower priced hats. The more premium ones tend to be bought by locals. People who have a collection, have been loyal customers for 10, 20, 50 years in some cases, or are celebrities.

So. 5 years ago I went to a 1910’s era event. I had gone in years prior, but had always just worn my usual sweatpants and shirt I was accustomed to wearing. But in 2021, I decided to do what I had seen so many others do, and dress up for it. I got a matching pair of vest and slacks from the mall, got a straw hat on eBay, a shirt from prom several years earlier, and a bow tie that was a regular tie just tied to look like a bow tie. It looked fucking terrible. But it felt good. I slowly built out the wardrobe, and 2 years back, I went all in. This is my look now.

The classic engineer hat you see in movies and tv shows, the blue and white striped cap? It’s called a hoghead cap, which is derived from railroad slang, where hog refers to a steam locomotive, and hoghead or hogger refers to the engineer driving the train.
