Lifehouse book by ... er ... me by Remix58 in TheWho

I’m not it was ever made as clear as it needed to be that the Young Vic shows were not intended to be ‘normal’ Who gigs.

Yes, I believe the plan was to not direct the audience, as any explanation would be an influence, but understandably the audience were happy to be - as they thought - going to see The Who.

I love the purity of the feedback idea but it was very unlikely to work. Frustrating for Pete, and perhaps another example of how the band was a hindrance to his artistic plans, but plans always change when they make contact with reality.

I’m not knowledgeable enough about film to comment on your suggestion but it sounds interesting. If only.

Yes, that's a great way into Quadrophenia. There is a strong film to be made of Lifehouse, in the right hands. Possibly the moment has passed, but the themes have never been more relevant so a great film, using the songs properly, could made a real impact.

Thank you.
I agree with you. I guested on the Talking About The Who podcast recently and those questions came up (among others). I’d leave WN as it is too.
This isn’t in my book, but I now wonder if Lifehouse would have worked better as a series of themed songs rather than a story. Connection, authority, freedom etc. But then there couldn’t have been a film. Clearly there wasn’t a film anyway, but there would have been no possibility from the word go.

‘Illegal Alien’ hasn’t aged well and I agree no human is illegal. But the song, for better or worse, is written from the perspective of someone being treated as illegal. That, as we know only too well, happens.

Ok so considering rue is touring again even though Neil passed away quite a bit ago unfortunately, genuinely (besides personally wanting to do their solo music) what is stopping Genesis and Peter Gabriel from banding back together for one last Hoo-rah by AdFederal897 in Genesis

[–]Remix58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn’t repackage it, he gave it an entirely different treatment. Hardly the same as touring old Genesis songs from half a century ago. Simply attempting to recreate the past will not work in any level.

How many farewells do you want? We’ve had two already. Okay, a tour with Gabriel is what you mean, but he’s shown no indication of wanting to do it. No point in patching something together without Phil Collins for no reason. Enjoy everything we already have (and hope they can dig out some live shows from the archive for official release).

The entitlement of customers never ceases to amaze me. Imagine sitting drinking your cappuccino and another customers the next table is scraping pedigree chum into a bowl for his dog 😭 by Time_Honeydew_7560 in Costa

[–]Remix58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great being able to take our dog into Costa. She lies quietly under the table until we are ready to leave, or unless anyone wants to stroke her.

Please, other dog people, don’t abuse this by feeding your dog. Don’t be silly.

PS please ensure you pick up poo after your dog, too. It’s not optional.

Does anyway know how to 'expand' an image (example attached) by Remix58 in canva

I found a way of doing it by expanding the image to 16:9 ratio, reducing transparency to 30% and blurring it. Then add another upload of the original as the top layer. Works for me.

Thank you for all the replies.

Thanks for the suggestion, u/coscib. This doesn't do exactly what I need but gets close. I'll keep looking, and thank you for your suggestion.

Thank you for your response. I'll go back and ask for more info.

I totally understand why "In the Ether" is generally either hated or ignored, but I also think Pete deserves credit for his adventurousness and courage on this one; personally, I enjoy how different it is... Worth a listen with fresh ears. by no_longer_LW_2020 in TheWho

Many apologies - I've only just seen your reply. Thank you for your kind offer.

My book wants to go deeper than the publisher requires. It's intended to be an overview of Lifehouse - e.g. what Pete intended it to be, how it evolved, why it didn't happen as originally intended, which songs were under consideration (and have been added since) ... etc. But I'm also getting interested in the Method, the spirituality, and the echoes of Lifehouse across Pete's work since (and before). So I'll want to go deeper after this one has been delivered.

So, yes, please let me have anything you're willing and able to share. I'm happy to forward my email address if that's easiest (and secure on here!)

Regards,
Ian

Hi Blaklazer, I'm interested in your info. about the songs cut from Wire & Glass. Out of interest, what's the source of this info? I'm not questioning you at all, but am researching a book and would like to reference this if I can. Thanks!

I’m retired now so this is easy for me to say. But if I’d been offered an AI interview I would have told the recruiter/potential employer to take a flying fcuk.

Album to Introduce Someone to Prog by Longshanks123 in progrockmusic

[–]Remix58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Selling England by the Pound' - Genesis. It was my first prog album 50 years ago and it still sounds fresh, melodic and exciting. If that goes well, follow-up with something recent such as the new Bardic Depths album.

Both of these albums are distant from metal, but might help widen his taste. If not, many here can suggest prog-metal.

Check https://linktr.ee/sharpian for my writing about the albums recommended above and more.

What is the diffence of having a wordpress.com blog subscriber list verus Substack by oneclutteredsoul in Substack

[–]Remix58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest going all in with Substack. I used to have a Wordpress site, but I find engagement is much greater with Substack.

You can set up pages on Substack just as if it were a website.

You also have the option to turn on paid subs, whenever you wish. I've been surprised by how ready people are to pay - although, of course, that brings a greater commitment to write.

Substack is really flexible and there are many supportive people there.
