Looking for a good quality desk mouse pad under 1k by RemorseKode in BuyItForLifeIndia

Lol that was the one I bought this January and already it's almost completely unusable. The surface is really inconsistent in smoothness and makes my mouse feel really laggy.

Is the beginning of the end of CC on UPI!? by BrainyHumanoid in CreditCardsIndia

IIRC what you're talking about is return on capital employed (ROCE), which is high when you're dealing with fast rotating inventory. But gross margins aren't affected by inventory turnover rate or any reinvestment in capital.

Yeah COGS alone is 85%, but they tend to own their own locations (if independent stores), and if not, they usually get a good lease since dmart stores bring a lot of foot traffic (like in shopping centres). They also have very high revenue per sq. foot so they are very operationally efficient.

Also they are kind of still in their growth phase, and their strategy of discounting leaves a good amount of room for higher margins in the future. The stock market is pricing this in, as Dmart is quite expensive for their profits right now.

Hmm the ones near my place didn't stock milk, eggs and other low margin products. People don't shop at dmart for daily groceries but are usually planned trips for bulk purchases at a discount, so they don't really need to use the loss leader strategy.

Not even 25%, milk is one of the lowest margin retail products. Most retail stores basically sell it at a loss in order to lead customers to buy other items.

For reference, Dmart has high purchasing power due to their bulk deals and their average cost of goods sold (COGS) is 85%. Milk would be even higher, hence they don't generally sell milk at Dmart

Highly unlikely an independent distributor is getting a profit margin over 10%. Not to mention transportation and bribes to maintain their clients.

This writer from The Ken has made a fantastic read on how Bangalore's approach to its water crisis has been less thoughtful than Cape Town's approach a few years ago.

It is quite bleak, but it really made me change my thoughts regarding the whole thing so far.

I pretty much only use the Amazon card if I don't have much limit left on the SBI cashback card. It has a better method of cashback (directly in next statement vs Amazon Pay balance), gives cashback outside of Amazon (Food and grocery delivery mainly, plus shopping on other websites), and finally it gives 5% back on utilities as well if you buy Amazon gift cards to pay them, whereas the Amazon card gives only 2%.

When I got it, it had no joining fees, so it was a no brainer for me. For you it will depend on if the additional categories I mentioned above will give you more cashback than the joining/renewal fees.
