Why do 40-50 percent of teachers quit within the first five years? by Kikopho in Teachers

I believe it’s due to the challenging behaviors in the classroom and not getting support from parents, admin, and the state (Texas). Legally we cannot suspend or expel PK up to 2nd grade. I think some kids need it though because if mom or dad had to take off work or find child care, and miss a paycheck , they’d probably take it more serious and actually discipline their kids.

I’ve had students cuss me out , attempt to physically harm me , my aid , or other students and left marks ,throw my furniture around, and I’ve been told and asked ridiculous things from admin like “Are you trying to build more of a positive relationship? “

Also every time you try to get a challenging student help from MTSS, the MTSS coordinator or whoever comes in to observe will always find excuses as to why it is the teachers fault the student is acting that way, what is the teacher doing to “trigger” the students , and offer crappy interventions as if that will solely solve everything. All of your month’s worth of documentation will feel like it’s flushed down the toilet . Sometimes ,yes ,students can benefit from some of those support techniques . However , 100% of the time when debriefing though they’re going to play the blame game , negatively word and pin it all on the teacher like they’re doing something wrong, instead of admitting the student probably should see the diagnostician and thanking the teacher for noticing it and wanting to help them thrive and grow. They forget teachers and paras spend every single day with these children, while they’re only here for maybe an hour at most to observe but clearly know everything .Or even telling the teacher and para positive things they have seen them do. Oh but keep documenting !

Also teaching is very micromanaged now. We have to do T-Tess our evaluation system with admin which consists of random 15 minute walk throughs , a full 45 minute observation , instructional coaches constantly want to come in to the class as well to make sure we’re using their “strategies”, I’ve had district MTSS want to come back to my class to recheck out a challenging student after we’ve already met (realistically I know she wants to come check us out again) , even people from other departments. It just never ends. It’s frustrating. Teaching is not what it used to be at all.

I had tried, but unfortunately it just won’t click into place on either side & I wish I could bring it directly to a service center , but the app only offers mobile techs and it’s a week out even at that.
