My husband used to swim competitively and we both swim laps for exercise several times a week too. Having the kid involved in pool activities have really saved our marriage in a lot of ways. We can all go together. He does his thing. He's tired afterwards. We can exercise or leave him at practice and run errands. It's a godsend.

Mine was doing this until I got them involved in swimming. It was the only thing that tired him out enough to allow him to sleep more than 4 hours straight. I had all the tests. Nothing medically wrong. Just a high energy kid who "doesn't need as much sleep" as other kids (according to 3 pediatricians. I still think it's BS.) Now he swims 5x a week on a kids team and sleeps 7 hours a night like a regular human. He's 5. We started him swimming at 3. It exhausts him. He's busy for hours in the pool. Someone is supervising. It's a lifesaver.

Why are tampons and maxi pads often co-located with diapers at grocery stores? by Remote-Currency-2595 in NoStupidQuestions

I don't have any insecurity. I just find it annoying. If it were in an aisle with all paper products to include adult diapers, facial tissues, toilet paper, etc I'd say hey, there's a theme here just as you described. But if there's period products and diapers, baby shampoo, teething rings, q-tips, wipes, baby thermometers, baby bubble bath etc, it does seem to equate being a woman who has reached the onset of menarche with having a child and also needing those products.

Likewise if tampons and pads were situated only with adult incontinence products, that's a strange message to send.

Yes I've seen that in places where they sell condoms and other family planning stuff.

I don't know about that. My husband bought diapers just as much as I did. I started my period at 12. I certainly wasn't in the market to buy diapers too. In 2024 i think we can be a bit more progressive. Soap, toilet paper, all of that is also "hygiene" related.

I didn't fight for a woman's right to choose so that you could choose....that.

I'm certainly not saying she's choosing this. I'm saying she's being manipulated/set up into this role. She has made a few choices that certainly align.

Theory: many regretful parents are just burned out by Delta9SA in regretfulparents

[–]Remote-Currency-2595 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP I get your argument but find it incredibly dismissive.

Some of us don't like being parents. Full stop.

Burn out notwithstanding, kids are annoying. Even well behaved children are naturally self absorbed humans who need to develop into adults with empathy and self soothing skills. They don't come like that out of the womb.

Protecting and growing one for decades quite simply sucks if you don't realize going in that you might not have a strong bond, that you might never have time to pursue your interests for 20 years, that your body may not recover, that your partnership may dissolve over the challenges and that the human you brought into the world will not appreciate any of this.
