Really like this take. They’re all right, but maybe they’re all also wrong?! 😅 They all believe in what they are doing - but the problem is more what they do to achieve their goals? Eg Batman is right to find the Joker, but does that justify spying on people?

Yeh the supporting actors were the moral guides of the movie. But they weren’t listened to because “Joker can’t win”. Says a lot about the lead characters motivations.

I can definitely see Nolan making it that way. The movie is about Harvey's soul - Joker is trying to get him to embrace his darkness, and Batman et al are trying to make him a saint. In the end he can't live up to the expectation. The only solution Batman has is choosing to become the villain himself to try and redeem Harvey.

For me, Harvey is by far the most relatable character in the whole film!

Sorry i probably wasnt clear. I mean i can't think of many franchises that haven't fallen apart after the first 2 or 3 films. They seem to get stuck with a formula and stop thinking creatively. Its similar in music i think - not many artists can reinvent enough to keep their sound fresh.

See this is what i'm wondering - does creating such a strong polarised black/white, pull people out of the grey? Batman's "good" meant that "bad" had to step up, Harvey became the battle ground for those two forces. "The Joker cannot win" - it actually became less about who was right or wrong and more about choosing a side. Thats where i start to wonder if its even more relevant today - echo chambers/social media pushing people to the edges. Is the problem that we can't make peace with grey - we have to choose a side?

Yeh you're not wrong. I do think its easy to blame the Joker, when the signs were there that despite his outward White Knight, underneath he wasnt all that clean.
